A Soldiers' Mother's Crown of Thorns

A soldier deployed to Iraq in 2005. He was awarded several purple hearts, and Army Accommodation awards. He served the unit with honor and professionalism. He saw horrors that he wanted to forget.

When he returned home, he was engaged to a woman that had her sights on over powering him and controlling his mere existence. She was married, but soon got a divorce from her former felonious husband. She was suppose to wait 60 days before getting married, according to the state law, but she decided to leave the state and get married instead. She thought this would nullify the state laws. Perhaps it worked.

Several weeks later, the soldier was busy cleaning his yard preparing for a weekend get away with his new wife and her kids that he embraced as his own. There were several arguments leading up to that day...

That fateful day, the soldier died. He was found hanging in a shed door opening. He was found by the new wife, who promptly called her own daddy to come help her. Her daddy cut the soldier down, and later disposed of the rope. She also called her EX husband, and finally she called 911. The soldier was clean. He had a bruise on one side of his head. Still quite purple and blue. The rope marks were very low at the base of his neck. While he lay in his coffin, his mother traced the rope marks with her finger tips. She wanted to memorize them, and she didnt know why.

His body showed no signs of the 'final attempt' to release himself from the rope, nothing under his nails but the dirt from working in the yard--and the coroner did not bother to clean him up. Had they known this soldier, they would have known how peticular he was about always having clean nail beds. His body had not released from bladder or bowel, there was no signs of blood. The shed door opening was 6ft in height. The soldier was 5'10", and he was on his knees according to the new wife's summary. There was an empty pill bottle next to him with the label missing. The wife said it was his pain killers for his previously injured heel. There were 3 or 4 cans of beer around on the ground, one partially consumed. The others were not opened. This soldier was finicky about his nails, but even more so about his beer. It wasnt his brand. It was however, the new wife's EX husbands.

The coroner said it was suicide. He closed the case, because he also owned the mortuary where the soldier was prepared, and he owned the cemetery (private) where the soldier was buried.

The soldiers' mother has fought for 4 years to prove SHE was the rightful 'owner' of her son and all his belongings. She has a government document, a DD93 that states she is the recipient of his SGLI and she is his Executor of his personal belongings.
However, the STATE decided for the new WIFE.

The soldiers' mother tried a few other angles to get possession of her son's body. She tried to prove the wife was in fact ILLEGALLY married to her son, because of the statue of law in the state specifically related to the 60-day wait.

She hired shoddy lawyers (family law) who had no true desire to help the soldiers' mother, but instead take all of her personal property and the LUMP SUM of the SGLI for 'payment' for doing work on the cases. In the end, the attorneys held possession of her property and a power of attorney to be able to lock the soldiers' mother up in a state insanity hospital.

For 4 years, the soldiers' mother has been trying to peel back the layers of lies, all while fighting with the alleged wife of her son for answers. The mother wants to know why her son would take his life, when he was just 5 weeks into his first marriage. Why would he take his life when he purchased a new vehicle for his new family. Why would he take his life, when he had just gotten an hourly raise at work.

Was he a victim of PTSD like the new wife claimed? He had not exhibited any of the first few signs of PTSD. Did it just come upon him all of a sudden in a single day?

Why didn't the mortician or coroner do an autopsy? Why didn't the police department collect evidence and photographs of the incident? Why isn't there some recourse for the mother of this soldier to get answers??

After 4 years, this soldiers' mother has decided who exactly has the answers. And she plans on getting those answers on Saturday. She is going to ask her son--the soldier--in person.

This mother is willing to leave her other two children (both grown) alone in this world without her, to find the answers she seeks.

Why wont the Army help? Because it is a conflict of interests between helping the mother and helping the spouse. Why wont the courts help? Because the slap shod lawyers never process the correct forms, thus the mothers cases get thrown out, dismissed, or the the new wife's 'criminal defense' attorneys are able to wind through the documents and slip through. Why wont someone tell the truth about what happened that day? Why does this mother feel the need to take her own life to get the answers???

Her crown of thorns.

For 4 years, this soldiers' mother has mourned the death of her son. For 4 years she has lived and breathed his death--never getting closure. For 4 years the new wife of the soldier has been in 3-4 different relationships, had numerous more children, and taunts the soldiers' mother with photos online of his personal belongings.

We may lose a soldiers mother this weekend. Because justice truly is blind.

9/8-SICK OUT day for school aged children!

Have you read any transcripts thus far as to the content or subject of Obama's Internet speech to the children? Do you have a child between PRE-K and 12th grade?
Well by authority of Obama, he wants to deliver an undisclosed speech to YOUR child AT SCHOOL on Sept 8th.

MY CHILD will be sick that day. Swine flu. It is going around...allergic to swines.
My child will NOT BE indoctrinated by BO.

Homeschooling kids do not have to worry about the indoctrination speech. Lucky for them. I wonder---is BO going to invade private schools? Do HIS children have to listen to him droll on and on about nothing. Oh wait. They live with him. I am sure he makes time to indoctrinate his own kids.

NOT MINE! As a PARENT, I CHOOSE what my child learns. If I am not satisfied with a text book offered by the school, I purchase another to teach my child the TRUTH, verses a watered down PC version of some liberal text. This happens often... I should home school.

what is left? Who can he try to manipulate? The YOUNG of course. THE CHILDREN. He thinks if he gives this big huge speech to the CHILDREN that they might pester their parents to follow along with his mandates!

Not exactly Mr Usurper. What will happen is the children will chat about what BO said. Then the PARENTS will tell them the TRUTH, and dispel your BS Mr. BO. So it might generate some conversation, but in the end, the parents WILL debunk your skunk.

Meanwhile, as parents we get to see the version of his speech the WH posts AFTER its all said and done.

This is a PERFECT example of REMOVING your right to CHOOSE as parents. We SHOULD be able to see the content of this speech and decide if we want our children exposed to it. It wont happen though. Not with BO in the WH. So instead we take a SICK DAY.

Where is the BIGGEST concentration of Muslims in America? Where has this large concentration of Muslims recently attacked Christians for asking a question.
Here is a hint. A town called Dearborn, Michigan.

Dearborn, Michigan now has the largest single concentration of Arab Muslims in North America. There are 32,000 Arab Muslims from Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq living in East Dearborn, making up almost 1/3 of the population. In some districts it is common to see store signs and billboards written in Arabic.

Now where is the proposed Terrorist relocation center located in Michigan?
Standish, Michigan.
Exactly 2 hours and 20 minutes away from Dearborn, Michigan.

The people of Standish, Michigan are divided 50-50 about the possible relocation to the high security prison. DIVIDED??? DIVIDED??? What is there to even contemplate?? NOTHING! Color Of Change Bullies and Racists

Why is Color of Change attacking Glenn Beck? Because he is a WHITE guy who shows the FLAWS and DESTRUCTION of our Nation by the hand of Obama. Not the hand of a black man, because Obama is black AND WHITE.

Color of Change-- what would the "colorful' people of the Nation do if a group was formed called "Rainbow of Change" and consisted of tan, brown, white, olive, pink etc ethnic groups of people? Oh those big babies would cry FOUL because of some stretched out LIE about how the group was racists.

Or how about a group called "Pale People of America's Past"?? A group designated for Caucasians to go through their genealogy and share family history information and stand together for change in America. How about that? WHY cant Caucasians group together and form a dot.org? Because it would be considered racist! EVEN IF IT ISN'T!

I want a group that honors Native American, Irish, Germans! MY relatives were ABUSED, KILLED, ENSLAVED, and put into hard labor too! YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONES! My RELATIVES came across the ocean in boats too! My relatives got starved out by gangs, and killed, and got diseases, and pushed in the mud!

My relatives got taken advantage of CONSTANTLY! Why cant I have a group to "RECOGNIZE" the pains and atrocities formed against MY relatives?

Do I live my life teaching my kids how the 'white man' did our family lineage wrong? Constantly crying about how unfair it is because of this or that--or how their relatives were forced to work the railroads, and enslaved and constantly sold?

NO. Because it doesn't matter! We are NOW not facing slavery and mass killings of races. RIGHT NOW we are FREE AMERICANS. BLENDED ethnic groups of a PEOPLE.

What is the SEIU? What do they want? Where did they come from? Well, I will tell you. The SEIU formed in 1921 (Cue the music) when members of seven small janitor unions dared to dream they could build their strength by forming a single organization, the Building Service Employees International Union. The BSEIU, a union of mostly immigrant workers chartered by the then-AFL, changed its name to Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in 1968. Chicago-based Local 1, SEIU's first local union, is still organizing janitors and security officers today.

Mission Statement: The SEIU vision is of a society where government plays an active role in improving the lives of working people. To achieve this vision, we (The SEIU) must organize unorganized service workers, extending to them the gains of unionism while securing control over our industries and labor markets. We must build political power to ensure that workers voices are heard at every level of government to create economic opportunity and foster social justice.

THAT, coupled with Obama, is how the government tried to take over all three auto industries. They almost succeeded except Ford escaped the trap. Now note as overall control of Government Motors and Chrysler has been handed over to the Unions. Is it any coincidence? No, this is part of the plan, part of the agenda, to put unions in control over the evil industries, and “nationalization” is the means they are using to do it.

It is right there in the mission statement of the SEIU, their goal is to take over the industries and the labor markets. And this is what Obama and the democrats want too. They have been saying it all along, but we have been too casual to notice or be afraid that they might one day pull it off. BARACK OBAMA AND HIS ALLIES ARE TRYING TO CHANGE THE U.S. CONSTITUTION WITHOUT FOLLOWING THE AMENDMENT PROCESS -- IN FACT, THEY'RE TRYING TO REWRITE THE ENTIRE CONSTITUTION -- AND THEY'RE CLOSE TO SUCCEEDING!

What would you think if an amendment to the U.S. Constitution was introduced by liberal Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, which repealed the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights -- taking away our right to Free Speech?

What would you think if an amendment to the U.S. Constitution was introduced by liberal Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, which repealed the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights -- taking away our right to Keep and Bear Arms? (A right that the U.S. Supreme Court recently upheld!)

"That could never happen," you say. "No one would allow it!" Right? Well...

Did you know that there are TWO ways that our Constitution can be changed? And did you know that Pelosi, Reid and Barack Obama are using the less well-known way, without having to actually introduce amendments?

IT'S TRUE -- and WE have to stop it NOW!

One way to change the Constitution is to go through the amendment process -- a long and tedious process requiring two-thirds of both houses of Congress to pass an amendment, and then three-fourths of the states to ratify it.

That means a "super-majority" of our representatives at the National and State levels would have to be in favor of the amendment -- which safeguards us from the possibility of really "bad" amendments.

BUT... there is one other way that our Constitution can be changed... and it DOES NOT require all of those elected representatives to be in favor of it. It's called a Constitutional Convention, and all that it requires is 34 states to ask Congress to call one.

In fact, right now, all that is needed is for two more states to ask for a Constitutional Convention... and the basic law of the land could be changed forever by Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid!

Most people don't realize that Article V of the Constitution requires Congress to call a new Constitutional Convention (a "Con Con") if two-thirds (or 34) of the states request it. We've only had one other "Con Con" in our history: the one where the original Constitution was written in 1787!

The language of Article V is mandatory: it says that Congress "shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments" whenever requests are received from two-thirds of the states. Note that the word "amendments" is used in the plural. These are the only instructions we have about a Constitutional Convention. There are no other rules or guidelines.

We don't know how a Constitutional Convention would be apportioned, or how the delegates would be elected. We don't know what rules the Convention would operate under. We don't know whether changes to the Constitution could be proposed by a simple majority, or would require a super majority, of those attending. We don't know if the agenda could be limited or would be wide open to any proposal.

We don't know ANYTHING about how a Con Con would work -- which means that it will come down to Congress setting the rules!

And Congress is controlled by the most radically liberal Democrats in American history! Is that who we want to be in charge of a new Constitutional Convention?

Do we want BARACK OBAMA, NANCY PELOSI, and HARRY REID to completely rewrite our most basic document of law?

The fact is, under the vague language of Article V, a Constitutional Convention cannot be limited. It would be wide open, and able to consider ANY change in the Constitution that was proposed!

Former U. S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren Burger once said, "There is no effective way to limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention. The convention could make its own rules and set its own agenda."

The Stanford Law School Professor whose case-book is used in the majority of U.S. law schools, Gerald Gunther, said that, even if Congress tried to limit the Convention to one subject, the delegates could decide for themselves that the Convention "is entitled to set its own agenda."

This means that, even if supporters of a "Con Con" claim that the convention would only cover one issue -- whether it's a balanced budget amendment or removing the requirement that to be eligible to serve as President, one must be a "natural born citizen," or anything else -- there is NO WAY to stop the Convention from changing EVERYTHING that we hold dear in America!

Barack Obama and his far-left supporters would be able to get THEIR people appointed as delegates to the Convention, so that THEIR agendas would be the Convention's agenda, and THEIR plans for socialism in America would come to pass.

Say BYE-BYE to the First Amendment's freedom of speech -- Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity could be taken off the air.

Say BYE-BYE to the Second Amendment's right to bear arms -- a total gun ban could be the law of the land!

Say BYE-BYE to the Constitution's requirement that to serve as President a man or a woman must be a "natural born citizen"!

You KNOW that's what they'll do if given the chance -- and we're only TWO STATES AWAY from seeing a Constitutional Convention convened!

You see, Article V says that it takes a request from two-thirds of the states to force a "Con Con" -- but it doesn't say there's any time limit on getting to that total!

Thirty-two states have already issued a call for a "Con Con" over the last few decades, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming.

It only takes 34 states to REQUIRE a Constitutional Convention be convened!

Some states, like Georgia, Virginia, and others, have since voted to "rescind" their call for a "Con Con" -- BUT no one is sure whether those "rescission" votes are actually Constitutional...so the danger is REAL!

WE MUST CREATE a tremendous outpouring of publicity and public scrutiny to be given to this danger, so that Barack Obama and his radical liberal allies can't "sneak this past us" without anyone noticing, until it's too late.

President Barack Obama has already expressed his belief that the U.S. Constitution needs to be interpreted in the context of current affairs and events. Can you imagine what he and his supporters would DO to that document if given the chance to re-write it completely? Our Bill of Rights could disappear overnight!

In fact, all the way back in 2006, Obama already had his lawyers researching how someone could get around the eligibility requirements to serve as U.S. President -- these people simply don't CARE about whether we preserve the supreme law of the land!

Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative Partners With Pharmaceutical Companies to Reduce Cost of Antiretroviral Therapy

The Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative has announced two new partnerships designed to make better, more affordable treatments available for patients on second-line antiretroviral (ARV) therapy in developing nations.

The first partnership, with pharmaceutical company Mylan and its subsidiary Matrix Laboratories, will make available the four drugs — atazanavir, ritonavir, tenofovir, and lamivudine — needed to enable once-daily treatment of patients who have developed resistance to standard first-line ARVs. The drugs will be made available as separate products immediately at a price of less than $475 annually, or together in a single package for $425 annually starting in 2010. The package price is 28 percent lower than the current lowest-priced alternative and represents the first time a second-line regimen of four ARVs will be available for under $500 annually.

The second partnership, with Pfizer, will work to reduce the price and expand the availability of rifabutin, a drug used to treat tuberculosis in patients taking second-line ARVs. Pfizer will sell the product for 60 percent less than its previous market price — $1 per 150 mg dose, or $90 for a full course of treatment over six months — in developing countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.

"Thanks to the work of my foundation's HIV/AIDS initiative, two million people living with HIV/AIDS are now able to access lifesaving treatment," said former President Clinton. "But their continued survival depends on uninterrupted access to medicines and quality and affordable health care throughout their entire life. No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

OK, I'm livid.

As most of you know, the fourth annual Gun Blogger's Rendezvous is fast approaching (43 days away as I write this), and this year I planned to make a special contribution to support Project Valour-IT - a gun giveaway that would be for even those unable to attend. But I'm not a 501(c)(3) organization, or any other kind of tax-free charity, so I couldn't actually run a charity raffle. Besides, I'm not really set up for it and wouldn't know how. So, with the aid of Rendezvous organizer Mr. Completely, arrangements were made with Soldiers' Angels to provide on-line ticket sales. Tickets went on sale Friday, July 17. We were ON!

Soldiers' Angels uses PayPal for their on-line donations. PayPal even has a "Case Study" of Soldiers' Angels' success (PDF) using PayPal, bragging:
Today Soldiers' Angels' biggest online contributions go through PayPal. "It's trustworthy to people and so they donate," says (Founder Patti) Patton-Bader. "There's a confidence that donors feel – that it's a safe way to make a donation. There are not many companies that inspire that kind of trust."
Trust.

Coincident with the Gun Blogger Rendezvous Raffle, Soldiers' Angels had also started a fund drive for other projects that same weekend. PayPal put a stop to that. Here's Patti Patton-Bader's official statement:

Online donations through PayPal are a huge part of our fundraising. They shut down our entire account-not just the raffle button—for twelve hours right in the middle of an email fundraising push. Looking at the Terms of Use, we couldn’t understand where we’d gone wrong, but we had to immediately remove the raffle so we could get back online ASAP. This just breaks our hearts because we were so excited about the tremendous fundraising impact the Gun Blogger Rendezvous raffle was already having.

(My emphasis). The "tremendous fundraising impact"? In the short time (3.5 days) the PayPal button was live, they had 42 participants and 109 tickets sold.

As noted above, we're still 43 days out from the Rendezvous. I just found out about this today.

And not only did the contributions for the raffle stop coming in, ALL contributions to Soldier's Angels via PayPal were cut off for twelve hours.

Because PayPal is anti-gun.

So where does that leave us? Well, you can call Soldiers' Angels and do a transaction over the phone. During normal business hours (PST) you can call (626) 529-5114, or you can call their voicemail service any time at (615) 676-0239, leave them a callback number and they'll get back to you - probably the less expensive option, timewise. It's not as convenient as a mouse click, but it beats snail-mailing a check.

I've never asked this before, but I would appreciate it if every gun- and mil-blogger on the web and every gun board picked this up and spread it far and wide. I'm tired of gun-bigots. PayPal needs to hear from US - the law-abiding gun owners of this country - that we're no longer willing to just roll over when we're abused by the companies we "trust" just because we believe in and practice the rights guaranteed to us under the Second Amendment.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which there is an inflated sense of self-importance and an extreme preoccupation with one's self.

The cause of this disorder is unknown. Narcissistic personality disorder usually begins by early adulthood. In Obama's case it was sponsored by a group of people grooming him.

Goodbye Elderly Folks, you've lived long enough...

Have you recently gone through your 'old' movies to seek out "Logan's Run' or 'Soylent Green'? I do not need to. Both of those cult classics are forever ingrained in my mind. They were both 'futuristic' type movies and they both have similar theme's. The elderly are disposable. Of course both of them go about utilizing the elderly in different fashions. Soylent Green uses the elderly as a FOOD source. Little wafers of food, to feed the hugely overpopulated world. Green foods are gone, animals are no longer a food source; so the elderly at about 60 years old are given the 'going out' of a virtual reality type relaxation room with music piped in and a large screen of beautiful scenery of when the world was healthy and trees existed.

In Logan's Run on the other hand, it depicts a dystopian future society in which population and the consumption of resources is managed and maintained in equilibrium by the simple expedient of demanding the death of everyone upon reaching a particular age, thus avoiding the issue of overpopulation.

So are our resources depleting? Why would this ObamaCare plan include NO CARE for the elderly if they have a disease, or other END OF LIFE issues. Unemployed in Obamaland

Last year my daughter came to live with us, and soon afterwards gave birth to my first grandchild. At the time, I was unemployed 2 months mostly due to the fundraising pool beginning to dry up and then the issue of those who DID find my work vital--well they got hit by Madoff and his ponsie scheme.

So after talking to my husband, we agreed that for the time being, I could continue searching for a decent opportunity, but most of my 'work' would consist of taking care of my granddaughter.

Around December when the Christmas season was difficult, I went into overtime trying to find employment. Even if it meant something part-time or seasonal.

By this time, the elections had happened, and I was well aware Obama would take office in January. I tried to be open minded, but could not get passed "By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes!"

It is now the end of July, and I am still unemployed. I checked my education, my office skills, my business skills, my administrative skills, and everything appears to be top notch. I checked my references both personal and professional, and again I see great individuals with whom I have forged great working relationships and private.

I continually hear about the unemployment rate rising, more people becoming disenfranchised with unemployment, and of course how many states are delaying unemployment compensation. I even tried to apply for unemployment myself! I have worked since 1982. I have paid into my unemployment. However I was denied. Most likely because of the timely manner by which I applied and the time frame the state is currently paying out.

So I continue to seek employment. I go to my local State Employment agency, I of course get every Sunday paper for the classifieds. I get hints from friends, and have broadened my horizons into past careers I have held.

I have enrolled full-time again to complete my BA. I have also jumped into a new career field as my minor. Still.... nothing.

So from this point forward, with our nation going bankrupt, my children and grand children's future being spent so quickly--I realize this is OBAMA'S FAULT! Never in my life has it been so difficult to become employed. NEVER!

Regardless, Dr. Emanuel seems to be a graduate of the Jack Kevorkian Medical School.

Dr. Emanuel would make Dr. Kervorkian proud.

He has made the claim that “Medical care should not be given to those who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.”

So if you have an elderly family member suffering from Alzheimer’s or a child diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, the hell with both of you according to Dr. Emanuel’s position.

By all appearances, as far as he is concerned you can push them off into a corner of the room, because the government won’t be wasting any resources on them.

He also discriminates against older patients.

He believes that “Unlike (health care) allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not discrimination...”

So if you are young and healthy, under Obamacare you’re in good shape.
However, if you are a bit older and require a bit more care, well, it sucks to be you.

Congress wants to give Obama power to RULE internet

Congress and their MISSION to CONTROL, DICTATE, and CONQUER every aspect of American lives has introduced more 'bills' very quietly to shut down FREE SPEECH. This Congress is trampling all over the American Constitution at every turn. They want our Nation to be 'like Spain" with a side order of Chavez rules.

"Gird your blogs, because if liberals in Congress get their way, President Obama will have sole discretionary authority to shut down the Internet or critical parts of the Internet should he feel his presidency is being tested. Worse, under the guise of cybersecurity, Obama will essentially be granted the power to destroy free speech on the web.

On April 1st of this year, Senators Rockefeller, Snowe, Bayh and Nelson introduced bills S. 773 and S.778, collectively called the Cybersecurity Act, which would give President Obama dictatorial power over the Internet during a time of national crisis or emergency.

All of the bills' sponsors voted for the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 that prohibited organizations and individuals from running advocacy ads against candidates 60 days in advance of a general election. Now it seems these same people have conjured up a gag order for the Internet.

According to the current drafts, under the Cyber Security Act of 2009 the President may "declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shut down of Internet traffic to and from any comprised federal government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network". He may also "order the disconnection of any Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information systems or networks in the interest of national security."

What constitutes "cybersecurity emergency" or "critical infrastructure information system or network" is left completely up to the President to define. We know that the Administration, according to Rahm Emanuel, never wants "a serious crisis to go to waste". We also know the Administration supports the regulation of free speech on the Internet.

President Obama's choice to lead the powerful Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs is none other than Cass Sunstein, a radical Harvard law professor and supporter of the Fairness Doctrine for the Internet. According to Sunstein, "A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government."

Obama campaign fundraiser and FCC Chair nominee, Julius Genachowski, is a supporter of "Net neutrality", the first step in applying the Fairness Doctrine to the Internet.

"Net neutrality" proponents like Genachowski would have government decide what content Internet operators and network owners must provide. Incredibly, they claim this is to keep the Internet free and open to all, when in reality, their goal is to usher the heavy hands of federal regulators into the tent.

Stifling any venue where ideology competes with left-wing mainstream media has always been a goal of the left and Obama. Obama has just been more evasive in his means by supporting policies such as "net neutrality" and wobbling on the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine to talk radio. Liberal members of Congress are now set on sending America on an unconstitutional b-line away from Uncle Sam and directly to Big Brother.

The Cybersecurity Act is also includes a provision where "The Department of Commerce shall serve as the clearinghouse of cybersecuirty threat and vulnerability information to the Federal Government and private sector owned (emphasis mine) critical infrastructure information systems and networks." Shelving all privacy laws including the requirement for warrants, the Secretary of Commerce "shall have access to all relevant data concerning such networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access." Senator Rockefeller made it clear in his statement what "relevant data" this act could include when he stated "We must protect our critical infrastructure at all costs – from our water to our electricity, to banking, traffic lights and electronic health records – the list goes on."

While we have worried about cyber attacks from Russia and China, who would have thought the greatest threat would come from members of our own Congress."

The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to feed their infants infant formula from China because the safety and nutritional adequacy of infant formula from China was/is unknown.

Recently, infant formula from China by the name of Guan Wei Yuan was found for sale in an Asian retail market in New York.

The FDA is "suppose" to be the regulatory group that makes sure food items are safe.

A study by government researchers released Thursday tested 15 different brands of formula and found a chemical -- also found in rocket fuel -- contaminating every single one. The chemical- perchlorate.

The FDA maintains that the parts per billion of this chemical are in their eyes considered LOW and not harmful to babies.

So saddle up and take a trip to your local Shuttle Launch and sip on some Rocket fuel!

Oh but wait! The EPA has found perchlorate in the drinking water in 23 states!

To add insult to injury, when you mix infant formula contaminated with perchlorate - a rocket fuel ingredient than can interfere with infant brain development - with water that's also contaminated with perchlorate, you put rocket fuel on baby's menu. Twice.

The little phrase spoken by Whimpy from Popeye, that generated a large population into the hamburger eating frenzy.
Granted back in the 50's and 60's, hamburgers were made from ground beef. Simply formed into patties and fried on a flat grill, then served with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, ketchup, mustard, and a bun.

These days, the meat is pre processed, additives to "enhance flavor" are included, the buns have extra sweeteners in them, the vegetables are sparse and often do not taste like their namesake IE: tomato, lettuce, etc. The ketchup has a LOAD of sugar in it, as well as mustard with added corn syrup. The cheese used tastes more like plastic than aged creamy cheeses.

If you happen to grab one of these burgers during a pit stop a few times a week, and your waistline is expanding---do you give thought to perhaps it is the "fast food" you consume?

There was a law suit a few years ago that claimed MC Donald's makes you fat. Several obese individuals started a class action law suit to get billions from MC Donald's. While I agree a diet that includes MC Donald's frequently will indeed add extra to your weight, and yes, MC Donald's workers have stated several times in off-commentary interviews that the "addictive" substances added to EVERY food MC Donald's serves is SUGAR, SALT, and FATS; it is the person(s) who pull into that parking lot to get those food items that cause their own obesity issues.

It is just as easy to say, "I want a cheeseburger!" and go home and prepare your own concoction. Driving PAST the fast food lures is quite easy. Think about that old phrase " a moment on the lips, forever on the hips."

However in this EXTREMELY LAZY society, people have to have more than their health declining as a reason to STOP bad behavior.

If Fast Food was taxed similar to the new cigarette taxes, and that "dollar menu" was no longer available because of the tax increase, Fast Food wouldn't look so appealing any longer.

Consider your health the next time you crave Fast Food. Consider the additives that cause cancer and other health issues which are put into the Fast Food items you consume. Cook at home---at least then you KNOW what your getting.

Smoking costs more but Heart Diseases kills faster

The number one killer in America is (drum roll) Obesity.
Obesity (bad diet and no exercise) was the cause of 400,000 deaths.

129.6 million Americans are overweight or obese. That is a staggering 64% of the population.

If obesity continues to rise, by the year 2020, 20% of all health care spending will be on obesity related diseases and conditions. This is according to the Rand Corporation.

Raising taxes on cigarettes, according to the Government is to prevent smoking related diseases. It was a HEALTH prevention measure to increase the taxes on a single pack of cigarettes to $1.01 today.

Fine. Smoking causes certain diseases and they become exasperated by a persons poor health.

However, to be devils advocate; if the Government is so concerned about the public health, then INCREASE taxes on ALCOHOL (all kinds), FAST FOOD and JUNK FOOD (IE: chips, soda, minute microwave meals, etc.

Prevention is key, the experts agree, and Americans know what to do: Eat a healthy diet, keep their weight in check, exercise and don't smoke. But instead, obesity and diabetes rates continue to rise. Roughly two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. And the epidemic is spreading to teenagers and children.

But instead of eating healthier diets and getting up off the couch, Americans would rather order a pizza, and remain stagnant.

Who benefits then from this horrible epidemic of obesity? The Pharmaceuticals Companies of course.

People aren't scared enough of heart disease and obesity related diseases like Diabetes. Dr. Robert Califf, vice chancellor for clinical research at Duke University Medical Center says it clearly, "It's sort of accepted as part of the background noise, even though it's far and away the mostly likely reason that you or I will die."

So instead of a healthy diet, supplements, and exercise which WILL lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and make you heart healthy, physicians look for the "new drug" that will take care of those issues. Which means people are still going to McDonalds for that quarter pounder with cheese and fries, or Taco Bell for that nacho supreme.

RAISE THE TAXES on FAST FOOD, JUNK FOOD and ALCOHOL, to make the cigarette tax increase FAIR and BALANCED.

The result? People will buy more groceries, and probably COOK at home more often. Fruits and vegetables will return to family diets, and the Fast Food industry will either overhaul their menu's, or go out of business. Either way it is not a big deal, because FAST FOOD KILLS.

BONKERS hate preacher Anjem Choudary has warned Brit lovers that if they celebrate Valentine’s Day they will rot in Hell.

The controversial Muslim cleric rants that exchanging cards, sending roses or enjoying romantic candlelit dinners are “sordid acts influenced by the Devil”.

And he slams one of Britain’s favourite traditions as “a futile and evil festival, used to justify sinful actions such as free-mixing, promiscuity, vain sexual talk and even fornication”.

The London-born lawyer, who in his youth was a cider-drinking ladies’ man, penned the rant in his anti-West website The Islamist.

The 800-word article in the February edition is headlined Valentine’s Day Of Fornication and shows bloody pictures of hearts.

The cover of the mag shows pictures of Palestinian children killed during last month’s attacks by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Inside Choudary, 41, gives over a page to Valentine’s Day, which millions of Brits will celebrate a week on Saturday.

The former leader of banned hate group al-Muhajiroun calls it a “Pagan festival” and says it “diverts” people away from “the submission and worship of Allah”.

He says: “Many view this day as harmless fun, an opportunity to show love and affections towards spouses and partners by exchanging cards, giving flowers and having candle lit dinners etc, not realising that its origin and current day practices conflict with the teachings of Islam.”

And he reckons it is “unfortunate” people have been “duped” by romantic films and songs into celebrating it.

“The recognition of Valentine’s Day opens the door to the Devil to manipulate their behaviour, encouraging them to abandon their Islamic identity and to entertain desires of lust, to engage in pre-marital relations and in other evil practices,” he says.

“People should not succumb.

“Instead we should endeavour to attain the best form of love, which is exclusive love for Allah.”

The rant is the latest in a string of bizarre attacks by the hardline nut.

In December he told Muslims enjoying Christmas was “the pathway to hellfire”, adding: “Purchasing trees and having Christmas turkey meals are completely prohibited by Allah.”

My children's father was in the first Gulf War to liberate Kuwait from Saddam. He was there in Iraq with the 24Th INF Div (M) and traveled well into Iraq...doing many things. He took the PB Pills, his MOP suit did not work, he blew bomb bunkers, he was exposed to a multitude of ordinance and oil field fires set by the Iraqis. He was given a barrage of injections as a "precaution" or perhaps as a "guinea pig" for scientific research testing. He was exposed to Anthrax injections, Sarin gases, and "other."

He now has lypoma--it spreads all over his body, PTSD, degeneration in his joints and knees, and a laundry list of other ailments. He looks 15 years his senior.

Yet through all of that, I am suppose to believe he is "contagious". That the illnesses our veterans suffer from are viral and bacterial.
If this is true, does it mean EVERYONE who steps foot in the middle east will be exposed to the super cootie? Will every foreigner who comes to the united States via the Middle East be quarantined now? HOW FAR does the madness go?

DOCTOR CLAIMS HE "CAUGHT" GULF WAR ILLNESS BY TREATING GW VETERANS -- Dr. Larry Goss of Walters,Oklahoma says he and other doctors contracted sickness just by being near Gulf War vets.

Walters -- The U.S. Government is now finally acknowledging a mystery illness from the Gulf War is real, and backs the claims made by sick veterans. The report stated that more than 175,000 veterans of the first Gulf War in 1991 came down with Gulf War Syndrome, which opens up a person's immune system to many disease.

Some local physicians also came down with the syndrome simply by treating veterans who suffer from the disease. Dr. Larry Goss has been practicing medicine in Walters for years, and during that time he says he has treated dozens of Gulf War veterans. He says he has had the syndrome, and has never even been to Iraq.

In 1991, the first Gulf War was filled with bombs and explosions that landed in areas that many believe were poisoned with toxic chemicals, and a recent government report states that the fallout from some of those bombs could have physically affected U.S. troops. Goss says that one particular explosion in Khamisiyah, Iraq caused a massive fallout of sarin gas and other chemicals.

Goss says U.S. troops were forced to take ‘P.B. Pills' prior to being exposed to sarin gas, but that those pills could make symptoms of a gas attack much more severe if taken before exposure. "It actually made the effects and exposure to Sarin worse," he said. Goss says he's relieved that after so many years of studying Gulf War Syndrome that the government finally is making its determination. "There's a camel under the tent," he said. "They've admitted to at least one aspect of what's been going on."

Veteran Joe McDowney says he was 15 miles from Khamisiyah when there was an explosion, the gas of which ultimately gave him many symptoms of many illnesses. "Joint aches, having trouble sleeping, having trouble walking - I was diagnosed 10 years ago with having multiple sclerosis...it's nowhere in my family gene traits," he said.

Dr. Goss says the government's admission that Gulf War Syndrome actually exists is only a first step. He says they need to do more. "This one aspect that they looked at is not the entire ideology of this constellation of illnesses that we call the Gulf War Syndrome," he said. "I believe they did something they don't want to be held accountable for, otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion 17 years later."

The committee's report also recommended that Congress boost funding for research on Gulf War veterans health to at least $60 million per year.

An Open Letter To The Officers Of The United States Military Forces

In the course of recent history there have occurred numerous events which give
rise to our urgent concern as to where your immediate loyalty lies. Is it with the
People of the several united States of America, or is it to the would-be Commander
in Chief, the president elect and to the Supreme Court of the United States?

Because of numerous apparently erroneous decisions made by the Supreme Court
in the near past, decisions that were more political than constitutional, there is a
well-seated concern regarding their decision on a very serious allegation before
them today. The concern is that the president-elect in the person of Barrak Hussein

Obama is not qualified to fill the office of President of the United States and that
of Commander-In-Chief of the military forces of this great nation because of
constitutional restrictions for the candidate to that high office.
It is a question of his status as a natural born citizen of these United States.

If the Supreme Court makes the correct decision according to the Constitution of
the United States and finds that Mr. Obama is not qualified to that office there
will have to be another selection to fill the office and give to you and your
fellow officers a proper, constitutional Commander-in-Chief.

If, however, as anticipated, the Supreme Court errs to political pressure and allows
the faulted election of Barak Hussein Obama to stand, then you will have to make the
personal, serious decision to act under your oath-of-office as a commissioned officer
of the United States of America. You cannot lawfully serve under an unconstitutional
president. Any orders issued as Commander-in-Chief will be unlawful orders.

History is replete with examples of the people's worst enemy being their own
government taken over by power hungry despots. I have no reason to believe
that human nature has changed - that given the opportunity, evil men will impose
their will upon the populace.

The form of government established by this Nation's founders is one of Law
based upon absolute Principles, not upon the whims of individuals nor even of the
majority of the people. They wrote a Constitution expressly limiting the authority
of the federal government and denying to elected leadership unilateral and
unquestioned authority.

You are reminded that your oath upon commissioning as an officer of this nation
is to the support and defense of that Constitution against all enemies, foreign or
domestic and through it, the people of these several States. It is not to obey a
Commander in Chief, whether qualified or not. Even less is it to obey the faulted
decision of a faulted court.

You are further reminded that it is well established in international law that
following the orders of a superior authority is no defense in your personal
responsibility for unlawful acts by you as commissioned military leaders.

It is with these points in mind that I demand that you make a personal decision
and public commitment that, if and when you are ordered to accept a blatantly
unconstitutional decision that grossly damages our constitutional underpinnings,
action against the people of these several States or the Constitution established
by them, you stand with the people and their Constitution to protect them from
intrusion upon the rights, their persons and their property and to defend them
against all actions, either violent or non-violent, perpetrated by those enemies,
domestic or foreign, whose object is the destruction of the Constitution.

I call upon you to renounce any action in violation of the people or their
Constitution, and to bring to bear all the forces under your command to the
protection and defense of these high purposes.

In the Name of the Almighty God, I fully expect you to fulfill to the maximum

Detroit Big 3--Parable of Defeat--30 years of Repeating

A MODERN PARABLE . .

A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (Ford) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.

Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing.

Feeling a deeper study was in order, American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion.

They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents, and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.

They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners, and free pens for the rower There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes, and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses.

The next year the Japanese won by two miles.

Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next year's racing team was out-sourced to India....

Here's something else to think about:
Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can't make money paying American wages.

TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US. The last quarter's results:

UK School Cancels Christmas and Replaces School Celebration with Eid ul-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) celebrated by Muslims

A SCHOOL cancelled its Christmas performances to make way for Eid.
A letter was sent to parents of children at Greenwood Junior School, Sneinton, on Monday.

But following complaints from parents, a second letter was sent apologising and explaining that the performances would be staged in the new year. The school has not said what the performance involved but parents described it as a nativity play.

Eid ul-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims. Former Greenwood Junior pupil and St Ann's mum Janette Lynch, whose seven-year-old son Keanu attends the school, said: "The head has a whole year to plan for Eid and so she should be able to plan for both religious festivals.

"I have never heard of this at a school. It is the first year my son has been there and a lot of the mums like me were really looking forward to seeing the children in the nativity. I think it's wrong it has been moved to after Christmas."

The first letter, sent from 'The staff at Greenwood Junior School', said: "It is with much regret that we have had to cancel this year's Christmas performances. This is due to the Eid celebrations that take place next week and its effect on our performers."The follow-up letter, sent by head teacher Amber Latif and Yvonne Wright, chair of governors, said: "I would like to apologise for any misunderstanding that was caused from the letter that went out last night.

"We are a very inclusive school and fully respect the cultures and religions of all the children. "We are upset to know that some of our parents/carers have been offended by the letter.
"The Christmas performance has not been cancelled outright but has been postponed until the New Year."Parents and carers were originally told the performance was cancelled because children wanted to celebrate Eid with their families at home, and planning of the school year made it "difficult to move performance dates to another week".

The school has also sent out a timetable of events to mark Eid ul-Adha, or 'greater Eid', which is the second of the two Eid festivals. It lasts for two or three days and starts on Monday or Tuesday next week.
Muslim children will be off school for the religious holiday.

Sajad Hussain, 35, of Sneinton, who has two children at Greenwood Junior, said: "My children will be off for the two days next week to see their family.
"It's not that complicated; they could have one event on one day and another on another day, they should have both celebrations at the school.
"If you do not have both it becomes a racist thing and that's why you have to be careful – if an issue is made out of it it could become nasty."

The school has an above average percentage of ethnic minority pupils.
Yesterday, a statement issued by Greenwood Junior, said: "We would like to apologise for any confusion caused as a result of [the original] letter we sent out and would like to reassure parents and the community that Christmas has not been cancelled at Greenwood Junior School. (I think it has. It is postponed--being celebrated in the NEW YEAR--being PUSHED ASIDE--to make way for a MUSLIM celebration to have PRECEDENCE over all other religious observances)

"As a multi-faith school, like many schools in Nottingham City, we represent a wide variety of faiths and due respect is given to each one appropriately.
"For very practical reasons we have taken the difficult decision to re-arrange some significant events on the school calendar to ensure maximum pupil and staff attendance.

"The next two weeks are brimming with festivities for both Eid and Christmas that the children are really looking forward to."

When a baby is born into a family, the word “best” becomes synonymous with that new child. The word hovers around your home with new meaning and parallels everything you consider when it comes to raising your child. This includes feeding your baby.

Breast feeding is best. Let me repeat myself, BREASTFEEDING IS BEST. It is the first and for many the only option considered during pregnancy all the way up to the time the child is born. However, due to circumstances beyond our control such as but not limited to: premature birth; lactation problems; low milk production; infant digestion problems; breast feeding problems; sometimes a new mom is not always able to do the one natural thing she was ready to offer her newborn child. FEED THE BABY NATURALLY.

So alternative feeding comes into play.

In the delivery wards of hospitals, even if you elect breastfeeding ONLY, the makers of infant formula have diapers bags, and ready-to-feed formula samples (enough for 2 or more days) pre packaged as gifts for every new mom. MARKETING PLOYS.

In every newborn care and hygiene cart there are at least two mini diaper bags filled with these goodie bags from the top tier infant formula makers. EVEN IF YOU ELECT to breastfeed. You’re encouraged by the nursery nurses to take these goodie bags home.

On occasion, regardless that the card on your newborns cart says BREASTFEEDING ONLY, if your newborn has to stay in the nursery for an extended period of time waiting on a physician to do their rounds, and is crying out from hunger (babies are fed on demand) a nursery nurse may very well pop the top off of a ready to feed 2 oz bottle of formula and feed your BREASTFEED ONLY newborn infant. Many times without you even being aware. No harm no foul right? WRONG.

Most recently as is the case in China currently for 2008, Melamine has been purposefully added to infant formula to boost the protein reading content. A byproduct of Melamine is Cyanuric acid. It may be found as an impurity of melamine, meaning Melamine alone is of low toxicity, however experimental studies have shown that combination with cyanuric acid leads to crystal formation and subsequent kidney toxicity.

Now we find out that here in the United States, the top three infant formula makers have trace amounts of not just melamine, but Cyanuric acid as well. The statements from these top three industries "We're getting inundated by calls from moms confused about the situation," said Pete Paradossi, a spokesman for Mead Johnson, one of the three major manufacturers of U.S.-made formula involved in the problem detections.

“Confused” he says. Well certainly! Why? Let’s break that down.

Your INFANT has a liquid diet, FORMULA. You can not breastfeed, therefore you as a mom, have but the ONE option, formula. Now you find out there are TRACE amounts of a product that is 66% nitrogen, if mixed with resins becomes fire retardant, is usually combined with formaldehyde to produce plastics, and can be used in pesticides. Melamine is also used in the fabrication of melamine poly-sulfonate used as superplasticizer for making high-resistance concrete.

Melamine is described as being "Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Chronic exposure may cause cancer or reproductive damage. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant.” However, the toxic dose is on a par with common table salt with an LD50 of more than 3 grams per kilogram of body weight. This of course is for ADULTS—not newborn infants and SMALL CHILDREN under the age of 2 years old.

TRACE AMOUNTS of these two chemicals are in that powder you mix to feed your baby. TRACE AMOUNTS. And here is what the FDA has to say.

“The FDA reiterated its position that the baby food is safe and parents should continue feeding it to their babies, contending the extremely low levels of contamination do not present a health danger.”

The FDA and other experts said the melamine contamination in U.S.-made formula had occurred during the manufacturing process, rather than intentionally as was done in Chinese production. The manufacturers insist their products are safe.

"The levels that we are detecting are extremely low," said Dr. Stephen Sundlof, director of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. "They should not be changing the diet. If they've been feeding a particular product, they should continue to feed that product. That's in the best interest of the baby."

Now ask yourself this question. Why would the FDA say this? Why would the FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION and the CENTER FOR FOOD SAFETY AND APPLIED NUTRITION of these UNITED STATES tell mommy’s of small infants and children to offer POISONOUS toxins to their children? TRACE AMOUNTS of TOXIC chemicals are in the BABY FORMULA. TRACE AMOUNTS are AMOUNTS UNACCEPTABLE no matter the reason as to how they got there.

Answer: The FDA in all of the Uber-Regulatory and shaking hands with Conglomo Uber Corporations DO NOT HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE. Not a HEALTHY alternative. So basically this is SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST kiddos! If the mom’s feel powerless to demand a healthy alternative or seek out a healthy alternative, then they take a chance that the government regulatory agency cares about the well being of their child. THE FDA HAS NO ALTERNATIVE THAT THEY R-E-G-U-L-A-T-E AND CAN PROFIT FROM, OR ASSIST OTHER COMPANIES IN PROFITING FROM--TO OFFER AS AN ALTERNATIVE.

Or it is possibly time to be SELF regulating, and SELF educating and really put all efforts and energy into HEALTHY alternatives for the benefit of the family and children---it is time to get off the grid—and out of the herd.

Yes, Virginia, there is an alternative. Homemade formula. No preservatives, no sugars, starches, fillers, gluten's, wheat, allergens, pesticides, plastics, or junk to harm your precious child.

Soy is even harmful to the very young! I never thought I would say that, but it is. It is harmful because of the processing of the soybeans. In addition to high levels of aluminum in soy estrogen's in soy (a soy-fed baby receives the equivalent of five birth control pills’ worth of estrogen every day); recent research suggests that high concentrations of manganese in soy can lead to brain damage in infants. Many moms are told if their infant has digestion problems or are suffering from colic, to try a soy based formula. NOT TRUE. 2 cups MEYENBERG Goat Milk
2 cups Rice Dreams Vanilla Fortified-Enriched Milk
1 Tbsp Tree of Life Unsulphured Black Strap Molasses
1 Tbsp Liquid Dynamic Health Lactobacillus Acidophilus Apple/Strawberry/10 Billion Live Cells
1 Tbsp Flora DHA Flax Oil
1 Tsp Dynamic Health - Liquid Vitamin C 1000 mg
1 Tsp Trace Minerals Research - Liquid Cal/Mag/Zinc Natural Pina Colada
1 Tsp Country Life Maxi Baby Care Liquid-Nutrient Rich Multi Vitamin
1/8 Tsp NOW Foods Wheat Germ Oil

Put all ingredients in blender and blend well for about two minutes. Pour liquid into clean, sterile bottles. Refrigerate until ready to feed baby. Warm by placing bottle in container of hot water for a few minutes. NEVER MICROWAVE bottles or formula! Not only will this deplete the nutrients in the formula, but it may cause BURNS to your child. Please remember, with vitamins as you would normally supplement for a breastfed infant, increase with weight, not age. As too, this recipe requires the same increase. You will notice that this recipe is for a newborn infant. When you look at the bottle of Country Life Maxi Vitamin drops, the amount required in the formula is doubled. The “recommended daily allowance” aka RDA is the regulatory safety amount slapped on labels to make sure you get the bare minimum, but not quite exactly what you truly NEED everyday.

Increase the vitamin dosage in the formula at the appropriate WEIGHT as listed on the bottle, remembering to keep it at a doubled dosage. This is for the vitamin dose only. As your infants’ appetite increases, you will simply double the batch of formula you make daily.

Obama’s Road to Damascus

History will record that Barack Obama’s first act of diplomacy as America’s president-elect took place two days after his election victory, when he dispatched his senior foreign-policy adviser, Robert Malley, to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad—to outline for them the forthcoming administration’s Mideast policy vis-à-vis those nations. An aide to Malley reports, “The tenor of the messages was that the Obama administration would take into greater account Egyptian and Syrian interests” than has President Bush. The Bush administration, it should be noted, has rightly recognized Syria to be not only a chief supporter of the al Qaeda insurgency in Iraq, but also the headquarters of the terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the longtime sponsor of Hamas—the terrorist army whose founding charter is irrevocably committed to the annihilation of Israel. Yet unlike President Bush, Obama and Malley have called for Israel to engage in peace negotiations with Syria.

A Harvard-trained lawyer and Rhodes Scholar, Robert Malley is no newcomer to the Obama team. In 2007, Obama selected him as a foreign policy adviser to his campaign. At the time, Malley was (and still is today) the Middle East and North Africa Program Director for the International Crisis Group (ICG), which receives funding from the Open Society Institute of George Soros (who, incidentally, serves on the ICG Executive Committee).

In his capacity with ICG, Malley directs a number of analysts who focus their attention most heavily on the Arab-Israeli conflict, the political and military developments in Iraq, and Islamist movements across the Middle East. Prior to joining ICG, Malley served as President Bill Clinton’s Special Assistant for Arab-Israeli Affairs (1998-2001), and as National Security Adviser Sandy Berger’s Executive Assistant (1996-1998).

Robert Malley was raised in France. His lineage is noteworthy. His father, Simon Malley (1923-2006), was a key figure in the Egyptian Communist Party. A passionate hater of Israel, the elder Malley was a close friend and confidante of the late PLO terrorist Yasser Arafat; an inveterate critic of “Western imperialism”; a supporter of various revolutionary “liberation movements,” particularly the Palestinian cause; a beneficiary of Soviet funding; and a supporter of the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. According to American Thinker news editor Ed Lasky, Simon Malley “participated in the wave of anti-imperialist and nationalist ideology that was sweeping the Third World [and] … wrote thousands of words in support of struggle against Western nations.”

In a July 2001 op-ed which Malley penned for the New York Times, he alleged that Israeli—not Palestinian—inflexibility had caused the previous year’s Camp David peace talks (brokered by Bill Clinton) to fall apart. This was one of several controversial articles Malley has written—some he co-authored with Hussein Agha, a former adviser to Arafat—blaming Israel and exonerating Arafat (the most prolific Jew-killer since Adolph Hitler) for the failure of the peace process.

Malley’s identification of Israel as the cause of the Camp David impasse has been widely embraced by Palestinian and Arab activists around the world, by Holocaust deniers like Norman Finkelstein, and by anti-Israel publications such as Counter punch. It should be noted that Malley’s account of the Camp David negotiations is entirely inconsistent with the recollections of the key figures who participated in those talks—specifically, then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, then-U.S. President Bill Clinton, and then-U.S. Ambassador Dennis Ross (Clinton’s Middle East envoy).

Malley also has written numerous op-eds urging the U.S. to disengage from Israel to some degree, and recommending that America reach out to negotiate with its traditional Arab enemies such as Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah (a creature of Iran dedicated to the extermination of the Jews and death to America), and Muqtada al-Sadr (the Shiite terrorist leader in Iraq).

In addition, Malley has advised nations around the world to establish relationships with, and to send financial aid to, the Hamas-led Palestinian government in Gaza. In Malley’s calculus, the electoral victory that swept Hamas into power in January 2006 was a manifestation of legitimate Palestinian “anger at years of humiliation and loss of self-respect because of Israeli settlement expansion, Arafat’s imprisonment, Israel’s incursions, [and] Western lecturing …”

Moreover, Malley contends that it is both unreasonable and unrealistic for Israel or Western nations to demand that Syria sever its ties with Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, or Iran. Rather, he suggests that if Israel were to return the Golan Heights (which it captured in the 1967 Six Day War, and again in the 1973 Yom Kippur War—two conflicts sparked by Arab aggression which sought so permanently wipe the Jewish state off the face of the earth) to Syrian control, Damascus would be inclined to pursue peace with Israel.

Malley has criticized the U.S. for allegedly remaining “on the sidelines” and being a “no-show” in the overall effort to bring peace to the nations of the Middle East. Exhorting the Bush administration to change its policy of refusing to engage diplomatically with terrorists and their sponsoring states, Malley wrote in July 2006: “Today the U.S. does not talk to Iran, Syria, Hamas, the elected Palestinian government or Hezbollah…. The result has been a policy with all the appeal of a moral principle and all the effectiveness of a tired harangue.”

This inclination to negotiate with any and all enemies of the U.S. and Israel—an impulse which Malley has outlined clearly and consistently—has had a powerful influence on Barack Obama.

It is notable that six months ago the Obama campaign and Malley hastily severed ties with one another after the Times of London reported that Malley had been meeting privately with Hamas leaders on a regular basis—something Obama had publicly pledged never to do. At the time, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt minimized the significance of this monumentally embarrassing revelation, saying: “Rob Malley has, like hundreds of other experts, provided informal advice to the campaign in the past. He has no formal role in the campaign and he will not play any role in the future.”

But indeed, within hours after Obama’s election victory, Malley was back as a key player in the president-elect’s team of advisors—on his way to Syria. Mr. Obama, meanwhile, received a most friendly communication from Hamas, congratulating him on his “historic victory.”

After death of son, dad takes cases to Capitol Hill

A West Virginia man whose son survived the battlefields of Iraq only to die in his sleep at home is crusading to find other military families whose loved ones also have died after taking drugs prescribed for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Stan White's son Andrew, who was found dead in bed at the family's Cross Lanes, W.Va., home on Feb. 12, 2007, is one among a cluster of young veterans in the state who have died in their sleep with little explanation. Now Mr. White wants the federal government to monitor the drugs it prescribes to some 375,000 soldiers who have been diagnosed with mental trauma.

Shirley White of Cross Lanes, Andrew's mother, says she and her husband want an investigation into the medications prescribed to their son and other veterans who died.

So far, he has identified nine veterans across the country - including four in West Virginia - who have died in their sleep after taking antidepressant and anti psychotic medications.

Mr. White has met with members of Congress and asked for Capitol Hill hearings to investigate the deaths. His research prompted a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) investigation into Andrew's and one other death, which were found to have been caused by "combined drug intoxication." But the investigation could not determine whether the prescribed medications were at fault.

The father is taking up the crusade amid increased criticism of VA medical treatment of veterans suffering PTSD upon their return from Iraq or Afghanistan, including media and government reports that several VA centers failed to adequately care for patients and inform them of potentially dangerous drug side effects.

Finding out why his son died and keeping others from suffering a similar fate has become a personal cause for Mr. White.

"Our goal was to find out if the medications are safe," said Mr. White, who, with his wife, continues to grieve the loss of his son. "If they are, that needs to be publicized. But if they are not, that also needs to be publicized as well.

"I believe there are many more soldiers and Marines who have died in their sleep just like the four in West Virginia," said Mr. White, a retired high school principal. "I think what we have found is just the tip of the iceberg, but we need more national publicity to help us find others who have lost loved ones and are looking for answers."

The VA's Office of Inspector General conducted a review of the quality of care received by Marine Cpl. Andrew White and another veteran whose name was not made public but whom The Washington Times was able to identify as Army National Guard Sgt. Eric Layne, an Iraq war veteran.

According to the Aug. 14 findings, the two combat veterans were taking three prescribed psychiatric medications:

• Paroxetine - an antidepressant that can produce panic attacks, sleeping problems and suicidal thoughts.
• Clonazepam - an anti convulsive that should not be used with alcohol or other drugs, including narcotics or barbiturates.
• Quetiapine - an anti psychotic used to treat schizophrenia but, combined with clonazepam, can increase sedative effects.

"The medical examiner found that these patients died from combined drug intoxication involving prescribed and non prescribed medications," the report said. "In the presence of PTSD, other mental health conditions, and uncertain use of medications by patients, we are unable to draw conclusions about the relationship between medication regimens and these deaths."

The report said Cpl. White "died as a result of combined drug intoxication," including a non prescribed medication that the IG declined to identify. "No contributory natural diseases or physical injuries were identified," the report said.

Sgt. Layne died as a result of the VA-prescribed drugs and two unidentified nonprescribed medications, "under circumstances significant for fatal over-use of prescribed paroxetine" along with "apparent misuse of non prescribed medications of uncertain intentionality."

The VA conducted an agency wide analysis of all cases of death among veterans who were taking a combination of the same drugs and "found no high mortality rate in veterans in the referenced group compared to those taking other similar psychotropic combinations or veterans taking the single agents," said VA spokeswoman Alison Aikele, who did not specify the death rate.

Nevertheless, a California neurologist who contacted Mr. White after reading about his efforts to investigate the veterans' deaths in a local newspaper article, expressed alarm over seemingly healthy young veterans suddenly dying in their sleep.

"The drugs and the occurrence there in the four vets in West Virginia really jumps out at you," said Dr. Fred Baughman of El Cajon, Calif. "They are seemingly OK, and then they go to bed and they die in their sleep.

"The constant drugs that all four of them are on are the Paxil [paroxetine] and Seroquel [quetiapine]," said Dr. Baughman, who has long had his own concerns about PTSD drug prescriptions in the military.

Miss Aikele said it is not unusual for veterans suffering PTSD to be prescribed several psychotropic drugs for various symptoms, including sleep disturbance, nightmares and anxiety.

However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is re-evaluating whether there are safety issues with recommended doses of quetiapine and possibilities of "overdose due to sample pack labeling confusion."

The VA, meanwhile, has consented to review all drugs it prescribes to veterans who suffer PTSD.

At the urging of Mr. White, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia Republican, met with four victims' families in mid-July to hear their frustrations with the VA system.

Mrs. Capito said afterward that it was important for the families to learn whether there is any relation between the medications and the deaths of the young veterans.

"These are returning veterans, and we want to make sure we take as good of care as possible," she said.

The VA was plagued with controversies this year, including its own acknowledgment of "failures" in numerous human subject experiments and tests involving new drugs.

A joint investigation by The Times and ABC News of a behavioral study of veterans suffering from PTSD who also were taking the smoking-cessation drug Chantix exposed "unacceptable failures" in ensuring safeguards for soldiers in the experiment, according to an internal agency report.

VA officials took anywhere from two weeks to 134 days to warn veterans that the FDA had issued new warnings that the drug could cause suicidal behavior and that more than 40 suicides had been reported among people taking the drug.

According to the VA, more than 83,000 veterans who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan had received diagnoses of actual or suspected PTSD as of Aug. 15.

VETS' GROUPS SUE VA FOR DELAYS IN BENEFITS

THEY "SIGNED UP" AND THEREFORE THEY ARE EXCLUDED FROM ANY TREATMENTS OR SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES BY WHICH TO SEEK ASSISTANCE. IT TAKES ADVOCATES FOR VETERANS MONTHS IF NOT YEARS TO CONVINCE THEM OTHERWISE.
THEN THE PAPERWORK PROCESS BEGINS, AND THE VETERAN HAS YET ANOTHER FIGHT--ONE WITH THE VERY ENTITY WITH WHOM WITHOUT THE VETERAN, 'JOB SECURITY' WOULD JUST BE TWO FOREIGN WORDS.

We already know that the Courts have no jurisdiction over the VA. The Courts cannot order VA to spend their budget in a certain way or perform their duties in a certain way (or on a certain timeline).

I ran this by a couple of friends in D.C. (one of them an attorney) for their thoughts and they came up with two reasons why these groups are filing suit even though the suit will go nowhere:

1. ALTRUISTIC REASON: The issue needs public attention.

2. NOT-SO-ALTRUISTIC REASON: The groups want public attention.

Vietnam Veterans Of America & Veterans Of Modern Warfare Fight For Faster Benefit Decisions And Interim Benefits 'Lifeline'
Today, two groups representing thousands of American veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and Veterans of Modern Warfare (VMW), announced that they have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The lawsuit, which was filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, seeks to end the unconscionable delays experienced by veterans when applying for disability benefits. VVA and VMW seek immediate action to prevent further irreparable harm to our nation's veterans.

The lawsuit demands that the VA provide an initial decision on every veteran's claim for disability benefits within 90 days and resolve appeals within 180 days. Additionally, the veterans groups ask that the Court grant further relief in the form of interim benefits awards in the event that the VA exceeds these minimum standards of constitutionally-guaranteed due process. These interim benefits will provide veterans with a lifeline of support when it is most needed to facilitate reintegration into their lives back home.

"The failure to expedite veterans' compensation claims creates, at best, the impression that the nation does not respect its veterans," said John Rowan, National President, Vietnam Veterans of America. "America's veterans deserve more, and the VA's failure to fulfill its responsibilities brings dishonor to our nation and can only make the call of military service more challenging."

The VA acknowledges that it takes an average of at least six months to reach an initial decision on an average benefits claim; the actual delay is closer to a year. Appeals of these initial decisions, which are reversed more than 50 percent of the time, take, on average, more than four years, with some stretching 10 years or more. In contrast, private health care plans - which process more than 30 billion claims a year - process claims and related appeals in less than three months.

"As a matter of both policy and practice, the VA subjects veterans to long delays before receiving any of the benefits to which they are entitled," said Donald Overton, Executive Director, Veterans of Modern Warfare. "Our hope is that this lawsuit will compel the VA to process veterans' benefits claims more quickly and honor our nation's commitment to those that have defended and served."

"All veterans will benefit significantly from the legal action of VVA and VMW," said Robert Cattanach, Partner, Dorsey & Whitney. "The intervention of VVA and VMW is necessary because under federal law individual veterans are not allowed to access the judicial system. There are approximately 25 million veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces alive today. More than 7 million of those veterans are enrolled in the VA's health care system, and approximately 3.4 million veterans receive benefits. More than 600,000 VA benefits claims are backlogged - this number will only increase as the 1.7 million troops that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to return home.

"A soldier's transition to civilian life is challenging. The VA's failure to diagnose PTSD promptly and accurately, and the corresponding delay in the award of benefits, plainly results in veterans being denied this critical lifeline," said Dr. Charles R. Figley, PTSD expert and author, of Tulane University. "VVA and VMW's lawsuit will help to reduce this additional and, in many cases, unmanageable stress for veterans."

According to the VA, the suicide rate among individuals in the VA's care may be as high as 7.5 times the national average. Delays in awarding benefits to America's veterans increases the suffering of individuals already struggling with an inability to cope, as the seemingly endless wait for the VA to make a final decision on a claim magnifies the alienation and anxiety that they experience. For example, the inability to provide basic subsistence support significantly impacts a veteran's ability to maintain economic stability, seek and gain employment, provide and sustain a home, or care for a family. As a consequence, there is a substantial increase in the number of broken families, cases of homelessness and depression caused by the failure to provide disability benefits on a timely basis.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in the Democratic presidential candidate's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.

Onyango, 56, is Obama's late father's half-sister, the Obama campaign has confirmed. She is not a relative whom Obama, 47, has discussed in campaign appearances and, unlike Obama's father and his maternal grandmother, is not someone who has been part of the public discussion about his personal life.

The Obama campaign declined to comment late Friday night.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one a federal law enforcement official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, noncriminal violation of immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the U.S.

According to Federal Election Commission documents filed by the Obama campaign, Onyango has contributed $260 to Obama over a period of time. Under federal election law, only U.S. citizens or green-card holders are legally permitted to give money to campaigns.

Onyango, who listed her employer as the Boston Housing Authority, gave in small increments to the Obama campaign. Her latest contribution was $5 on Sept. 19.

The AP could not immediately reach Onyango for comment. When a reporter went to her home Friday night, no one answered the door. A neighbor said she was often not home on the weekend. Onyango did not immediately return telephone and written messages left at her home. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Kelly Nantel, said the government does not comment on an individuals citizenship status or immigration case.

Onyango's case — coming to light just days before the presidential election — led to an unusual nationwide directive within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requiring that any deportations before Tuesday's election be approved at least at the level of the agency's regional directors, the U.S. law enforcement official told the AP.

The unusual directive suggests that the administration is sensitive to the political implications of Onyango's case coming to light so close to the election.

The East African nation has been fractured in violence in recent years, including a period of two months of bloodshed after December 2007 that killed 1,500 people.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said Saturday that he had no idea how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order. He said he's not involved in the operations of the agency, even though he appoints the head, because it runs mainly on federal and state dollars.

William McGonagle, deputy director of the Boston Housing Authority, said when contacted: "I know nothing about it and I've got no comment."

Family Blames Soldier's Suicide on Anti-Malaria Drug
Lariam Known to Have Side Effects

Washington Post Staff Writer

CHICAGO -- Juan Torres didn't believe that his son, Army Reservist Juan "John" M. Torres, had killed himself in Afghanistan just weeks before he was to return home in July 2004. He figured that John, 25, was murdered because of his opposition to the reportedly rampant heroin trade around the base.

So Torres, an Argentine immigrant who works in food service in the Chicago suburbs, launched his own investigation. Now, he is convinced that his son did indeed kill himself. But he blames Lariam, a drug taken by tourists, Peace Corps volunteers and troops to prevent malaria. An Army psychiatrist's report also suggests the medication was a factor in Torres's suicide.

Controversy swirled around Lariam in 2004 after a UPI-CNN investigation linked it to the suicides of six Special Forces soldiers, including three murder-suicides at North Carolina's Fort Bragg in the summer of 2002. Lariam is known to have serious neurological and physical side effects, especially in users who have certain mental health problems. The group Lariam Action USA has catalogued numerous complaints from veterans and others who say they suffered lasting psychological and physical side effects, which sometimes didn't surface until years later.

The Food and Drug Administration's Web site warns of anxiety, hallucinations and other side effects, and says: "Some patients taking Lariam think about killing themselves, and there have been rare reports of suicides. We do not know if Lariam was responsible for these suicides."

The Pentagon launched an investigation into the drug in 2004, but it is still regularly prescribed for troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and other regions.

Now, Torres, 53, is asking for congressional hearings and is demanding a moratorium on Lariam pending more investigation and stricter oversight of the drug's use by troops.

"I think my son's story could save many lives," said Torres, who went to Bagram in 2006 with a documentary filmmaker to ask questions about his son's last days. "I think the military is covering up the effect of Lariam. After a soldier dies, that's it, they don't want to get at the truth."

A study published in the Feb. 11 issue of the peer-reviewed Malaria Journal indicated that almost 10 percent of soldiers sent to Afghanistan have health problems such as depression and bipolar disorder that put them at risk for adverse reactions to the drug.

An Army doctor who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he doesn't have permission to speak publicly said he was "floored" to discover while deployed in Afghanistan this year that many troops who were on antidepressant drugs were also prescribed Lariam.

"Not only was this unit misprescribed Lariam, this was being done with the tacit approval of the command," the doctor said. "If a doctor is concerned enough to prescribe an antidepressant, that would indicate they have a problem which would indicate they should not use Lariam. Anecdotally, almost everyone reports some side effects -- strange dreams, et cetera -- it's highly likely our folks are experiencing on a daily basis problems related to this drug."

John Torres was engaged and planning a honeymoon. He was buying a house in Houston. He was known for his upbeat attitude, and he loved serving in the military, having also done a tour in Bosnia. His time in Afghanistan had been relatively uneventful, marked more by boredom than by fear or stress.

But in the weeks before his death, Torres had complained of intense stomach pain, for which Army doctors found no physical basis. His family says his rambling, strange suicide note was out of character. His father thinks these were manifestations of the known side effects of Lariam, including psychosomatic pain and paranoia.

A report by Army psychiatrist Robert Ensley suggested that the influence of Lariam (Roche Pharmaceuticals' brand name for mefloquine) was a likely factor in the suicide.

"If toxicology reveals the presence of mefloquine, SPC Torres' case should be viewed in light of other suicides suspected to be associated with the drug," said Ensley's report, which noted Torres' symptoms began shortly after deployment, when his unit began taking Lariam, and appeared to abate on a visit home, when he may have stopped the medication.

Through a Freedom of Information Act request, Shaun McCanna, the filmmaker chronicling Torres's story, and Torres's mother, Susana Ferro, obtained Ensley's report. Army officials declined to comment on Torres's death.

Col. Alan J. Magill, director of the Division of Experimental Therapeutics at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, said the military is aware of the potential for adverse reactions to Lariam but has decided the risk is worth it, compared with the risk of troops contracting malaria in regions such as Afghanistan.

"Since mefloquine was introduced in 1990, there have been numerous well-controlled, randomized clinical trials and other case control studies that generally fail to associate the use of mefloquine with the tragic outcomes such as suicide that have at times been linked to the use of mefloquine," Magill said. "Every year, there are a dozen or so deaths due to malaria in U.S. and military travelers, so the threat of malaria remains quite real."

There are two FDA-approved alternate malaria prophylactic drugs, but Lariam is usually preferred by the military because it is taken only once a week. The others are taken daily.

"Long experience has taught the military that directly observed treatment is the only sure way to save lives and prevent malaria in the deployed force," said Magill, noting that research into other malaria chemoprophylaxis drugs is continuing at Walter Reed. "Directly observing a weekly drug is logistically much easier than directly observing a daily drug, and so mefloquine is often preferred by many in the field."

McCanna and Ferro say Army officials have not answered their questions about how Lariam may have affected Torres. McCanna thinks that Ensley's report was mistakenly sent to them unredacted, as two earlier responses to FOIA requests did not include it.

"They clearly knew it was Lariam early on," said McCanna, whose documentary "Drugs and Death at Bagram" will be released this fall. "But they weren't honest about what they found."

GENERATION KILL FINALE EPISODE

True to form in the final episode of Generation Kill, Recon 1 was much ado about nothing. This was a 21 day mission not meant for "Recon" of any sort as standard by the nomenclature of the marine division, but rather a spearhead push to drive through and escort an assortment of "highers" and others to their final destinations.

It was a political move for the Generals and Stars and Bars to get into positions and feel out the sandbox. A few firefights here and there, but really the grunts on the ground doing most of the clearings, and making a path through and into Baghdad was the Army.

Of course a Marine doesn't want to hear that. There is an infighting between branches of the military that goes back for many years. Childish of course, but lets not disrupt tradition with reality.

Of course after the initial ground war started the Marines did take Fallujah, so they did have a section of Iraq to claim as a battled sector with the "Marine" name attached. However, the Army took Baghdad, and many other places.

Overall, when the reporter confronted the Godfather with the issues about Capt America, the Godfather dismissed it all too easy with a blanket statement of how tough it is to be certain that what is reported to him is accurate or not, and if he was to go on the word of each complaint made about his "Command elements" then my oh my he wouldnt have a command element now would he.

I guess Capt America has to get american soldiers KILLED before Godfather would actually find it appropriate to do anything, since Capt America makes sure everyone knows he has a "full bird COL" as a family member in SENTCOM. Oh yea, quake in your shoes, because everything after Major is a politician really. So if ole Full Bird says keep my nephew in the Unit, well regardless that he is a bumbling idiot, squallbag, and NOT fit for command, he stays right?

This series basically did do one thing. It showed how our fighting men in uniform have to deal with poor leaders above Major, and there is really NOTHING they can do about it, except do their job, BLEED and worse case, DIE because of poor decisions.

GENERATION KILL SERIES REPORT PART 6

Recon 1 still has issues with Command. Godfather is too concerned with the opinion of the General to really give rise to what a Recon Unit should be doing. He is constantly "looking" for avenues to "get into" a new mission to impress the General.

When the General relieves another Commander of his command and side arm, word gets back to Godfather and the rest of Recon 1 and the backstabbing increases from The Neanderthal Capt (Skip) who still couldn't find his backside with both hands and a map. His Gunnery Sgt is the personal Grima-Wormtongue Weasel and frequently goes behind the LT's back in obvious maneuvers to out him from his position.

Recon 1 has a few contacts with insurgents along the way to Baghdad and up to Baqubah, but overall its slight, and nothing of the ideal of what you expect from a Recon Marine Unit.

Capt America still needs to be relieved of his command. I am really in awe that Godfather and several others have not seen this for what it is. Stellar leadership --- NOT.

There is but one more part in this series. Now the Reserves have joined the Recon group and as always, Active Duty is never happy when Reserves show up. Why? Constant bickering back and forth as to who "real" soldiers are. I don't know when that started....but really its about old and dried up.

Reserve soldiers are usually prior Active Duty and have ETS'd and just want to remain in service on a part-time basis because of personal life issues. Hey, you can take the soldier out of the service, but you cant take the service out of the soldier. They will always be SOLDIERS.

Bear in mind this series was written by a reporter, and edited and made for HBO from a novel written by a reporter, so it has a NON Marine, NON Military slant coming from someone OTHER THAN the actual Marines themselves.

What would make the MOST sense, is if HBO would grab up some of the writings from the actual MARINES of Recon 1 and do a series based on THEIR personal accounts of this mission as well. So you have two sides--and can decide for yourself who's perspective is more truth.

Illegals being given MORE Rights??

If this Nation is to resolve the problem of illegal immigration we have to STOP giving illegals free hand outs, free services, cash jobs that afford them to not pay taxes, and employers who either do not claim them, or do not sign them up for benefits because they do not possess the appropriate documents. IE: Citizenship documents.

When a RAID is conducted and illegals are deported back to whatever country they came from, it is at a minimum a means to an end to make them aware that if they want to be apart of a society to prosper, they have to follow RULES and come to America LEGALLY.
What the founder of this group fails to understand, is that the illegal immigrants DO NOT HAVE the American Constitutional Rights. They are ILLEGALS.

Then you have these groups who continue to assist the illegal immigrant by offering them:

The financier Robert Hildreth on Monday announced that he has given money to start the National Immigrant Bond Fund, which will bail out illegal immigrants who are arrested while on the job, reports National Public Radio.

Mr. Hildreth, a Boston resident, got the idea for the fund last year when 400 undocumented immigrants were arrested at a leather factory in New Bedford, Mass. About half of them were quickly deported.

“Bond is important because it starts the whole process of realizing the rights you are guaranteed by the constitution of the United States,” Mr. Hildreth said. Organizers said they had $200,000 in hand and would like to raise $500,000 for the fund.

A Unsolved Soldier's Death In Alabama

In a small county outside of Birmingham, Alabama; a soldier died in 2006. There, a family still mourns his death and still has unanswered questions. Meanwhile the common law widow has since moved on evident by having a baby by another man, but continues to receive DIC benefits from the VA for the death of the soldier.

The soldier is buried in a lonely graveyard (orchestrated by the widow) away from the family graveyard where he would have been buried with his ancestor's pre-dating the Civil War. (Military Ancestors) No one visits the soldier with the exception of his mom and his siblings. The cemetery is private, the plot is private, and the headstone is a "child's size." (there are photos to prove it)

Last year there was a restraining order against the mother of the soldier that limited her visitation to the grave to 15 minutes a week or less if the widow showed up. That has since been reversed, but it has taken over a year of court battling to do so.

All the family of the soldier wants is an autopsy of the soldier to determine if what the Coroner concluded within his 20 minute "look around" was true. It is hard to fathom that this brave soldier, a hero to many in his unit and many iraqi civilians, commited suicide. The evidence at the time suggests it can not possibly be. Yet the widow makes sure with her criminal attorneys' assistance, that this soldiers' death may never be fully examined.

As court appeals have heated up, and disclosure forms have been submitted by the soldiers' family, the widow increases her obstinacy towards anyone who doubts her validity on what happened that fateful day. She makes cruel remarks that suggest she is doing oddities unaware to others, and has gone so far as to post a message in French, suggesting she has ordered the soldier exhumed and cremated to dissolve all evidence.

Recently the family spent Independence Day (one of the soldiers' favorite holidays) graveside, and brought his favorite patriot rockets, flags, and flowers to place at his marker. The mom of the soldier noticed that after two years, the grass covering his plot was still not "grown in" and the edges of the plot had a carved outline, as if they had recently been tampered with. So they outlined the plot with the patriot rockets (notice the black markings) and took a photo. The plot next to the soldier had a burial a few months after the soldier's. Notice the ground difference?

Perhaps those idle threats of the widow in French.....but what recourse does the mom have? None according to the Dept of the Army. It is after all, a CIVIL matter.

In this small county a coroner (who happened to own the mortuary where the soldier was embalmed and prepared and then buried in the cemetery owned by the same mortuary)...pronounced it a suicide after glancing at this hero who served our country for about 20 minutes.

When Brian came home from Iraq, he showed no signs of suffering from PTSD. We had, many times, spoken of these things. We spoke about what he was to experience before he went to Iraq, while he was in Iraq, and after he came home from Iraq.

War changes people. We both knew and accepted that. HOW it changed him, and those of us left here at home, was directly affected by the way we prepared for what he was about to experience. Brian came through the very bowels of hell a better man, a stronger man, a more confident man, with hope for the future, and with a closer relationship to God.

For anyone to say that he suffered from PTSD and hung himself, is to dishonor him in the most vile of ways. It is a slanderous lie, and *they should be beheaded in the public square for it.

*THAT...is called "Emotion".

I have earned the right to feel this way. I bled for Brian. I grew up with him. I know every scar, every mole, every broken bone, every heartache, every fear, every desire, every love of that boy...that Man...That "Answer to my Prayers". NO ONE can take that from me.

*THAT is how I feel about the people involved in my son's case. I feel this way, not only because of the dishonor they placed upon my brave Soldiers name, but because of the trauma they have caused to Brian's brother and sisters, and to me.

I have all of the above mentioned symptoms of PTSD. My surviving children have a mix of them. My daughter went from a straight-A student to a drop out in the 12th grade. She's lost interest in the "future". My youngest son went from being a gentle giant to a time bomb just waiting for someone to let him take out his anger on them. Both of them have physical signs of stress. My daughter is having serious "female" problems, her hormonal balance is off the scale. My son has been losing weight at a steady rate and has developed a serious dislike for anyone who isn't in his circle of friends. I believe he could stomp a hatchling chick without remorse.

I do fear what I might do if faced with running into the people who have disgraced my son. I have even gone as far as attempting to file a restraining order ON MYSELF (THAT, Sticky, is why the order still stands). Once I tried that, and the Judge saw the "fifteen minutes" at my own son's grave, he changed it. I can now go and visit my son anytime I want.

I decided to go visit Brian's grave this past July 4th. My youngest son and I went up there and fired off four Patriot Rockets and several other rockets, because Brian loved the 4th of July.

My focus has now turned towards the people who call themselves "Governors", "Lawmakers", "Detectives", "Coroners" because I have a very, VERY important wake-up call for them as far as their "investigation" and ability to uphold the law goes (in my son's case).

I take issue with a Coroner who can call over 700 deaths in a year and NEVER make a mistake. If this man is God, then why is he working for the poorest County in Alabama? He should be working for Orange County California!

The very first thing that comes to mind is, who made the call on that WEEKEND, that Brian was married? Who was it that looked at the Marriage License and, in their infinite wisdom, declared it to be fact? Didn't they think to check and make SURE the certificate was valid? This is the age of computers. Ten year old's can make one hundred dollar bills that look real.

Secondly, I know for a FACT that there is money set aside to hook every county up in every state, TO EVERY STATE, in regards to Felons, adoptions, marriage/divorce certificates, Gun Permits, Pedophiles, Terrorists, hell, you can even track the location of a DOG! That money comes from the Violence Against Women's Act and was distributed in 1985. In Alabama ALONE the amount of Grant money distributed is astounding.

Why didn't someone take the time to make sure the marriage was legal? We all KNOW it wasn't NOW. THAT certificate is illegal as it clearly proves that a FELONY has been committed. That Felony is "Bigamy". As a matter of FACT, Sticky's Attorney's now claim that she and Brian were married under "Common Law" from the date of the expiration of the 60 day court order attached to her divorce until the date of Brian's death...about 30 days.

WHY, then, has it been two years and 14 days since my son died and no one, other than myself and my Attorneys, has said "Wait a minute. We have a problem here".

For heavens sake, you made a mistake! You're HUMAN...IT HAPPENS! Reopen the case. Oh, but wait...there is something missing, now isn't there...

Once the crime scene has been thoroughly documented and the locations of the evidence noted, then the collection process can begin. The collection process will usually start with the collection of the most fragile or most easily lost evidence. Special consideration can also be given to any evidence or objects which need to be moved. Collection can then continue along the crime scene trail or in some other logical manner. Photographs should also continue to be taken if the investigator is revealing layers of evidence which were not previously documented because they were hidden from sight.

Most items of evidence will be collected in paper containers such as packets, envelopes, and bags. Liquid items can be transported in non-breakable, leak proof containers. Arson evidence is usually collected in air-tight, clean metal cans. Only large quantities of dry powder should be collected and stored in plastic bags. Moist or wet evidence (blood, plants, etc.) from a crime scene can be collected in plastic containers at the scene and transported back to an evidence receiving area if the storage time in plastic is two hours or less and this is done to prevent contamination of other evidence.

Once in a secure location, wet evidence, whether packaged in plastic or paper, must be removed and allowed to completely air dry. That evidence can then be repackaged in a new, dry paper container. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD EVIDENCE CONTAINING MOISTURE BE PACKAGED IN PLASTIC OR PAPER CONTAINERS FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS. Moisture allows the growth of microorganisms which can destroy or alter evidence.

Any items which may cross contaminate each other must be packaged separately. The containers should be closed and secured to prevent the mixture of evidence during transportation. Each container should have: the collecting person's initials; the date and time it was collected; a complete description of the evidence and where it was found; and the investigating agency's name and their file number.

Each type of evidence has a specific value in an investigation. The value of evidence should be kept in mind by the investigator when doing a crime scene investigation. For example, when investigating a crime he or she should spend more time on collecting good fingerprints than trying to find fibers left by a suspects clothing. The reason is that fingerprints can positively identify a person as having been at the scene of a crime, whereas fibers could have come from anyone wearing clothes made out of the same material.

Of course if obvious or numerous fibers are found at the point of entry, on a victim's body, etc., then they should be collected in case no fingerprints of value are found. It is also wise to collect more evidence at a crime scene than not to collect enough evidence. An investigator usually only has one shot at a crime scene, so the most should be made of it.

I guess Saddam used laughing gas and air freshener on all those Kurds,Iranians, Sunni's, and Shiite's or just about anyone he didn't like at the moment. Let's not forget what his son's did at any given moment to local people and CHILDREN.

In addition, buried way back in the newspapers a few weeks ago was the article about how the US military has stood guard over 550 metric TONS of Yellow cake which they finally succeeded in getting out of the country.......

They were afraid to publicize the stuff, for fear that the terrorists might try to apprehend some of it, or worse kill Americans by attempting to. According to experts, that was enough material to make 142 nuclear weapons.

Now take that information with the attached video of an assortment of our politicians with dreadfully short memories --- please watch it --- only makes one shake their heads in wonder. What is it gonna take????

If you watch the News at all, this past week there was a very good program about "Honor Killing." It the means by which a Muslim male will literally MURDER a female family member for non-scenical reasons such as but not limited to:

1. The female becomes to westernized
2. The female does not obey Sharia Law
3. The female does not follow strict rules set by the males of the house
4. The female becomes too well educated
5. The female simply pisses the males off in some capacity
6. The males feel their family are somehow being "dishonored" by a female
7. Repeat 1-7 and add Psychopath to the list

Honor killings are NOT honorable. They are MURDERS.

They are also spreading in the United States and Canada at an alarming rate. As more and more Muslim migrate to the US for a new life, and bring their families more women and female children are dying at the hands of their male counterparts because of NEANDERTHAL brainwashing and a religion that glorifies pedophilia along with female submission. (females are less valuable than a dog)

If a female earns a 4 year scholarship to a University with 3.5 or 4.0 GPA that is not good enough, or she has brought too much attention to herself. Too prideful. Somehow someway there will be FAULT found in it. Even though she is TOLD to do so, after the fact it will be an error.

If a female decides to empower herself and get a job be it part-time or full-time, she is literally setting herself up to be killed. She must NEVER dishonor her family---the MALES provide.

If she files for divorce because she is being beaten to DEATH by her husband, brother, son, uncle and any other males in the home, the WRONG party in this is the FEMALE. Why? Because she has dishonored the family for filing for divorce! Not the BRUTALITY of the ABUSERS who beat her for obscure reasons. Not the brother, uncle, second cousin removed, and even son who RAPE her and beat her. No they are blemish free. SHE is guilty because she is trying to LIVE--and get away.

Finally the Recon 1 group does something!
For the most part anyway...

They engage a bit, which up until now, the series left you wondering if this Marine Recon group would actually ever DO anything a RECON group is suppose to do.

Iceman put it pretty well, the amount of training, the hours and hours and multiple amounts of different venues of training----to drive around and show some Reporters the countryside....OORAH Sir!

However, as mentioned before, the stellar leadership is still less than...passing up a FULL BLOWN IN YOUR FACE opportunity to DISPOSE OF and RID the world of TRUE BLUE insurgent TERRORISTS JIHAD fighters and their completely exposed weapons cache. Just sitting there, right off the roadside...and they drove right on past it....dooptie doo....

Uhhhh yea. Instead they blew up the ONLY SCHOOL within miles of any other town, with a weapons cache in it. Hmmm stellar leadership again. Oh but it was a controlled det. That makes it perfect right? Yea.

Of course you always have to have to the ONE soldier who is trigger happy because he has that surging amount of fear in him and he is so focused that he lays on the trigger and would shoot a mouse if it ran in the road....unfortunately this was a civilian driving a car...good shot though, right in the head (eye). Certainly stopped that vehicle from approaching after the smoke grenade warning shot.

But at this point, there isn't a true SOP for the rules of road blocks yet...its all trial and error. HEY, its war, not baking cookies.

Overall, it seems like Capt America is making a lot more noise and others are seeing that he has a few too many screws loose. Good thing too...he needs to be pulled from command. Hopefully BEFORE someone gets terribly hurt.

ARMY WIVES (Season 2) Report

Part 9 The Continuing Hollywood Saga of Disbelief and Non-Army Wives.......

I made a prediction when Season 2 began. Low and behold it has come to fruition! Imagine that...I was able to detect what the writers would "produce" verses the TRUE lives of Army wives.

Now in part 9 of season 2, the stories (and that is all it is) unfold as most SOAP OPERAS do.

Roxy's husband tries to heal to get back to his unit and finish his tour of duty like any typical soldier. Most soldiers are NOT content being home on medical leave for injuries when their unit is still deployed. However, they are turning Roxy's husband into a DRUG addict--yea, prescription drugs-pain killers. Naturally. I am sure PTSD is still on the menu for this soldier. I have a office pool going on this one. I am already smiling knowing it will come to pass.

Claudia Joy continues to be the Post commanders good wife, but there is that sneaky suspicion she is going to ultimately be involved in something tangled and it will be a messy undoing of some kind. The writers will NOT be able to leave her alone. Something from her past will creep into her life. No doubts.

All seems well in the household for our darling Radio DJ Pamela, and her SPEC OPS husband now that the air is clear with the "hoax" of him being a dual agent type in busting some soldiers in the unit for theft...yea uh huh. However, reporters are now doing personal Bio's on her, and it will soon drudge up her past as a COP...look out, ugliness is on its way. Say for instance the whole thing about her being a surrogate mother....and something about her career as a police officer. Office pool on this one too.

Denise. Well all I can say is CALLED IT! I won that pool. Cha Ching! Denise didn't give into infidelity, however, she did embrace the forbidden kiss of death with the doctor. She also has this inner battle between independence, and being controlled by her overbearing control freak of a husband Frank. Who by the way is on his way home, and will probably turn out to be an abuser. (second office pool running on this one)

He constantly talks about how things are out of control and he needs to put the hammer down and regain the control, and did we mention the word CONTROL again? Yea the writers love that word- C-O-N-T-R-O-L. Kudos to them. They can spell. So Frank being a higher ranking officer gets leave and is on his way home....to find his wife the NURSE giving comfort to the doctor who had a very bad accident after she broke off a final coffee date with him. Uhhh yea.

Frank will go off the deep end. He belittles his son, wont "allow" his wife Denise to have a motorcycle, and gave her grief about getting her nursing degree. Prediction: Denise will sell the motorcycle to "save" her marriage, get beaten up, Claudia Joy will come to her rescue, and so will Roland.

Roland and his wife-Joan, had an emergency with the pregnancy. Well something bad had to happen didn't it?? I mean we cant have a picture perfect pregnancy now can we. No...that would be too LIFE like. The baby may be fine, or born premature. Either way some turmoil will happen. The writers wont leave well enough alone. But I can tell you this....I BET--the officer who wants to replace Roland's wife-Joan, is the HEAD of the drug ring on Base.

Then the final one is Roxy. She is still obsessed with her Hump Bar aka Betty's. She is getting her GED now, and she has financial woe's with running the place. During her trials and tribulations with being a business owner, she has a lot of Permits and inspections to pass and so forth. Eventually two things will happen. Betty's will pass away and the Bar will be her's 100%. Perhaps Betty will have a small stash of funds left to Roxy, but it won't be much.

Next her husband will redeploy and in his drug induced stuper mindset, he will be a KIA. Roxy will end up with the SGLI, which is close to $450,000.00 that will come as a shocking surprise to her in the midst of grief because lets face it, she never pays attention to "military stuff" as she calls it.

But....she will become the "new Betty" who stays right outside of post raising her kids and owning the Bar...forever serving soldiers...it will probably be the episode FINALE or something.

OH! The FINAL KICK IN THE TEETH! If Infidelity is NOT enough for your taste buds, lets add ONE MORE FALSEHOOD to the LONG LIST OF LIES and DEPICTIONS that HOLLYWOOD IDIOTS want to SLING at the common public civilian. ARMY WIVES are weak and often turn to lesbian lovers in time of loneliness and need! Yea, Season 2 part 10..begins THIS little drama laced bunch of CRAP! So the writers think that Army wives have NO backbone, NO morals, NO ethics, and NO ability to ENDURE long periods of faithfulness and do not take PRIDE nor HONOR their soldiers/husbands and absolutely HAVE to have a lover of some sort.....so they will go towards LESBIANS because somehow this will not be as "horrible" as having an affair with a male???

One thing Hollywood and the writers of this program CAN NOT and DO NOT understand is that we learn to ADAPT to the long periods of time apart from our spouses. We have CHILDREN, CAREERS, FAMILY, and FRIENDS that take up 100% of our time and it leaves VERY LITTLE for anything else. When we have the opportunity to email, write letters, send care packages, love letters, or get online with our soldier we TAKE that time or MAKE that time above ALL ELSE.

Yet Hollywood and the writers are so eager to SHOVE HOMOSEXUALITY down the throats of people of this Nation that it is showing up more and more in Television, Music, Movies, and I have even seen it on clothing. I SAY ENOUGH! I will not sit idle by and be a silent minority! IT IS NOT OK! IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, and IT IS NOT MAINSTREAM!

GENERATION KILL SERIES REPORT PART 3 & 4

As the HBO series continues in Part 3 & 4---

In part 3 it became very apparent that RECON 1 has Command problems. Command is less than effective and simply trying to earn bars and stars more than concerned for the unit it leads.
Command-the LT COL aka Godfather constantly looks for "missions" that get him brownie points with the General, and set his unit apart from the rest. Yea, real stellar leadership there Godfather. He sends the Recon marines place to place constantly MISSING opportunities literally LAID AT HIS FEET to ENGAGE. Locals with information on the Republican Guard locations within the villages and munitions stashes were offered several times. Often times locals with injured children or towns people would come for help. This would give the RECON marines opportunities to extend kindness right from the beginning of the War on Terrorism and establish aid to locals. Yet, GODFATHER wants none of this and changes directions and presses the Marine unit further to take an empty airfield instead, to get there before an airforce unit--like a game of tag or a lame football goal score.

The soldiers have every desire to get involved and DO THEIR JOB that they have been trained to do. Regardless that Command LOST THE BATALLION COLORS because of INCOMPETANCE in that rush to take the airfield. Questioning of orders, or desention in the ranks is not the issue, what is the issue that the marines recognize POOR leadership because they have been TRAINED to recognize it, and they understand that if you can NOT perform your job, you should MAN UP and STEP DOWN. So moral is decreasing in small increments...yet these soldiers keep things in perspective because they are MARINES...and they press forward knowing that eventually things will rotate around and they will have to jump up and do their job.

Now in part 4, the Recon Bravo Team, Lt. Fick is keeping his head and keeping his team organized by dealing with his own issues without bringing his men into it. Regardless that they want to offer their services in the way of standing up for him, he is commanding them to stand down-he will handle it.

Capt America was confronted, and got rid of the AK-47's. Yet something suggests that he needs to step down from command because he is still a loose cannon and will get his men hurt with stupid mistakes and his anxiety. He is UNFIT to lead.

Scouts from Alpha Co are continually messing up, mistaking a village for Armor and even when it is corrected, they call in an airstrike anyway.

Iceman still remains a stellar commander. The sniper team remains level headed and squared away.

The CO for Bravo Co needs to be removed ASAP. That speech about the MRE's being taken by the "enemy" is foolish and it is obvious that there is no shred of "marine" in that soldier. No leadership ability, and it astounds me how he made it up the food chain to his current position. A huge mystery actually. There is no amount of "knowing people" or favors that could be called in to get him to Capt. None. How his ignorance escapes highers is an anomolly.

The mission for a missing captured marine from a supply unit who was tortured and crucified---not recovered and abandoned....Why? Why was that mission scrubed and averted into something else?

Overall, the series is interesting. I keep in mind though, that there are two sides to every story, and this story was written by a REPORTER, NOT a military soldier. So it has its FLUFF.

It would be beneficial to see the REAL SOLDIER perspective on what happened with RECON 1 in 2003. A reporter always has a MSM slant and elaboration of misunderstanding the mindset of the military when they write. And there is always a lot of FLUFF.

Next week---part 5. Lets hope this series never mocks--or belittles our brave heroes--our fabulous marines. They are second to none.

VBA 'inventory' drops to 390,000

Burlington -- After reading the statements of a number of people who appeared at a hearing before the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs earlier this month, it's no wonder veterans are still waiting an inordinate amount of time for responses to claims and appeals.

Patrick W. Dunne, the Veterans Benefits Administration's acting undersecretary for benefits, reported he expects a more than 5 percent increase in the number of overall claims submitted by veterans, from 855,000 in fiscal 2008, to as many as 883,000 for fiscal 2009.

Veterans will be happy to know, however, that after adding more than 2,700 new employees to the Veterans Benefits Administration's (VBA) payroll, the time spent processing veterans' claims has dropped from 183 days to – sit down if you must –182 days.

On the bright side, as of the end of May, Dunne told committee members, the VBA's "inventory" had been reduced to a mere 390,000 claims backlogged. Yep. We don't even qualify as veterans any more. We've been reduced to inventory.

Dunne, by the way, is a retired Navy rear admiral. Go figure.

Speaking on behalf of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) was Kerry Baker, the group's associate national legislative director.

Baker asked lawmakers to remove procedural roadblocks in the appeals process, noting how lengthy (he's correct) the process is. Now, if I could just understand what the hell he was talking about.

Committee members were told: NOD to receipt of SOC – 213 days – VARO; SOC issuance to receipt of VA Form 9 – 44 days – appellant; receipt of VA Form 9 to certification to the Board – 531 days –VARO; receipt of certified appeal to Board decision – 273 days – Board; total –1,061 days from NOD to Board decision – sadly, many are much longer.

God love the DAV for what they do for veterans, but huh? Would the average veteran understand what Baker's talking about?

To be fair, the transcript supplied on the committee's Web site explained the abbreviations, but why not speak in plain language, perhaps something like this: "Mr. Chairman, the claims process is entirely too *&^$* long and we have more veterans dying every (&$!@ day. How long is it going to take to %$@&*% this $%@$% process? Thank you for taking the time to hear our concerns."

Is it just me, or did I get my point across in three sentences?

Next up on the dais was J. David Cox, the national secretary-treasure of the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO.

This irritates me on a couple of fronts. First, never trust anyone not willing to use their first name. What's the worst it could be; John, Joshua or Jamal?

What's worse is his reason for appearing before the committee. Oh sure, he began his little fireside chat with the efforts of his union members to ensure veterans are well cared for. But eventually, Cox got around to the real reason his was there: money and benefits for the rank and file.

The "production quality and workplace morale" would be greatly enhanced if there was a "collaborative environment" between management and employees.

Cox also pleaded with the committee to make veterans service representatives' career ladder more competitive, noting employees can only rise to the level of a GS-10 unless they pass a skills certification test. In other words, Cox is urging the VBA to pay higher salaries without having to prove they can do the job.

I can't argue with wanting more money. Who doesn't? To paraphrase Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, if offered, I will accept; if given, I will not return it. But the purpose of the hearing was to review undue delays in processing claims, and not to conjure up a Dickensian image of Oliver, begging, "Please, sir. I want some more."

The cast of characters didn't end with Cox, but it would take up too much space to continue. The facts are simple: the VBA's claim process takes too long. Veterans, particularly those struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder need help immediately, not some time in the future.

I realize dealing with the VA can be a Byzantine experience. The cure to the lengthy waiting period is not as simple as, "Here's a check. Have a nice day." But I dare say if the process was discussed in simple language, it might translate to shorter decision times.

VA'S CRUEL BENEFITS POLICY: IF YOU DON'T ASK, WE WON'T TELL -- Lack of VA outreach costs World War II POW more than 60 years of benefits. When family files, VA loses paperwork and vet dies with nothing.

The following is a very sad story about a brave veteran who lived for over 60 years never knowing he had earned VA benefits.
How can this happen?
Because the VA has no obligation to inform "older" veterans of their benefits.
Until recently, the VA didn't notify any veterans about their benefits, but now they are required to do outreach to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.
While this is a good thing, those "young" veterans make up less than 3% of the veteran population.
That leaves the other 97+% without any mandated outreach.
Congress tried to implement legislation requiring the VA to notify all veterans of all possible benefits...but, VA argued against it. It's time for Congress to bring this legislation back.
In this election year, we hear politicians of both parties talking about supporting the troops and caring for veterans...but, that's just 3% of the veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan vets get priority healthcare and claims adjudication as well as a special outreach program to inform them of their benefits.
The older vets just sit and wait their turn in line. Anyone who served prior to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan is truly "Old and in the Way."

GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan -- World War II veteran and former Prisoner of War William Jones didn't know he was eligible for thousands of dollars in veteran benefits over the past six decades.

By the time he did, it was too late.

Months after filing paperwork to get help with medical costs -- a process that was delayed when the Veteran's Administration lost his information in Detroit -- the Burton vet died July 9.

And without a surviving spouse, his claim file was closed.

"He could have lived a different lifestyle," said Jones' son Dean, who said his father worked two jobs to support five children. "They could have paid for his prescriptions and helped him out a little bit. Both his and my mom's health could have been different. They could have traveled more.

"They told us that now that he's deceased, there's nothing more they can do."

It's a common story -- many veterans unaware of the health care, tax breaks and pay they are entitled to never receive state or federal benefits.

Dean Jones, of Davison Township, said his family now wants to honor their father by raising awareness for other vets who might not know what help is available to them.

They also are urging the VA to invest in more outreach to people like their father who could have received about $2,700 a month in VA payments and full medical and dental coverage.

Dean Jones said his father thought he'd already received all of his benefits when he returned from war -- a $160 check for being a POW and getting dental work after a German officer knocked his teeth out with the butt of a rifle.

"He deserved all the money he was missing all those years but it isn't going to bring him back and isn't going to help anyone now," Dean Jones said.

"We want (the VA) to make right by our father and all veterans. We'd like to see other veterans get what's coming to them. They took care of us. We need to take care of them."

Jones' family is asking the VA to help with burial and funeral costs but isn't trying to collect any of the estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars or more his father might have received total over the years.

The family started researching his benefits when they were considering hospice, which wasn't covered by Jones' General Motors insurance for salaried retirees.

The family said they are disappointed that no one ever contacted the late Jones, who suffered from prostate cancer and was 87 years old, to explain benefits.

To make things worse, after five months of scrambling to collect all of Jones' military records to send to the VA, the family was told it had gone missing.

"They sat on it and someone dropped the ball," Dean Jones said. "He was dying and it was very critical."

Bill Traylor, a veterans service officer who handled Jones' case, said all of Jones' paperwork was filed correctly out of the Genesee County office.

But he acknowledged that it got lost in the shuffle when it reached the VA's Detroit office.

"We submitted it to the VA but somehow it never got to his file, which does happen because there's a lot of paperwork down there," he said.

He said POW claims get priority and normally Jones' case would have been processed more quickly. The lost records delayed the process by a month.

"What's really unfortunate is he could have been receiving his benefits since 1945. He could've been taken care of for 60 years," Traylor said. "When the family came in, they had no idea about all of these benefits. It's just a terrible shame."

He said the VA has made efforts in the past to inform veterans who qualify for unused benefits.

"There are an astronomical number of WWII vets who either didn't know they qualified for benefits or feel like they don't need them," Traylor said. "I talk to these guys and a very high percentage of them came back with the attitude of 'this was something I had to do, something I did for my country and I don't want anything from the government.'"

"I can't say enough about these World War vets. It truly is the greatest generation."
The late Jones never shared much about his POW experiences. He was captured in France in 1944 and spent about six months in prison where daily meals consisted of horse meat soup and coffee.

Gathered together the morning of his burial, his children said the grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 12 suffered from nightmares and ulcers and endured malaria in Africa and a gunshot wound in his hand.

They remember him soaking his legs in hot water and squeezing out bits of shrapnel.

And the Purple Heart recipient always carried a pocket-sized Bible with him -- which he said saved his life when it blocked shrapnel from piercing his chest while in minefields in Europe.

"He went through hell," said daughter Marla Coon, whose husband Earl researched Jones' service through the Internet, museums and historians. "He was a brave man. He taught us that nothing is for free."

The family is now working to ensure Jones' six medals -- discovered through their recent research -- come home. They also are asking a military review board to consider awarding him a Silver Star for braving mortar fire and heavy enemy shelling in Italy when he returned to a minefield for two injured soldiers.

"I just want to make things right for him and honor his final wishes," Dean Jones said.

America’s Newsroom, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) repeated his
demand for a vote to lower gasoline prices before Democratic leaders send
Congress home for the month of August and called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
(D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and Senator Barack Obama
(D-IL) to stop blocking an up-or-down vote. Boehner also highlighted the
House GOP American Energy
Act (H.R. 6566) to increase production of American-made energy and help
lower gas prices.
MEGYN KELLY: Republican Congressman and House Minority Leader, from

Congressman.

HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADER JOHN BOEHNER (R-OH):
Megyn, good morning.

KELLY: Thank you for being here.
So, OK, there is a bill that would address some of these issues like drilling
offshore. Nancy Pelosi and the House says it’s not going to get a
vote before the recess. You don’t think there should be a recess.

BOEHNER: I do not think there should be a recess. The
American people want us to do something about a high-price gasoline, the high
price of energy. The only way really to effect the price, really is
to do all of the above. We need to conserve more, we need biofuels, we
need alternative sources of energy, we need nuclear power, and, yes, we need to
produce more American made oil and gas in an environmentally-safe way and we can
do that. We introduced a bill last week, the American Energy Act.
What we’ve been asking the Speaker for eight weeks now is a vote. And we
don’t think the Congress ought to go on summer recess at the end of this week
without voting on the American energy plan.

KELLY: Your
position is you have got the votes to pass this thing, you just cannot get to
the House floor because Speaker Pelosi says she is not bringing it.

BOEHNER: I do think we have the votes in both the House and
the Senate. But it is Speaker Pelosi, it’s Harry Reid, it’s Barack Obama
who want no part of allowing the Congress to work its will on a vote that would
produce more American-made oil and gas. They’re absolutely opposed to
drilling. They worship at the altar of radical environmentalists.
That is why they have been blocking this vote, but the American people can
help. All they have to do is call their Member of Congress, their Senator,
and say don’t leave until you have a vote on this bill.

KELLY: Here’s what the Speaker said. I have it here so
bear with me while I read it. She said when pressed on what she’s not
allowing this to go for a vote, “I am trying to save the planet. I am
trying to save the planet. I will not have this debate trivialized by
their excuse,” meaning Republicans, “for their failed policy.” Any
response?

BOEHNER: Megyn, for 25 years, Democrats have
blocked more American-made oil and gas. That is why we are in the
predicament we are in. That is why 70 percent of our energy comes from
overseas. And she has time to go out and promote her book tour and her new
book, but she does not have time to schedule a vote on the floor of the House
and let the American people have their will expressed. I mean, we
got elected to Congress to go there and represent our constituents.
They want us to vote on more American-made oil and gas. We want to do
that. She, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama are standing in the way.

KELLY: You say that number one, this is a defining week for
the Congress. But you say that the reason the Democrats are not allowing
this to come to a vote is because of, and I quote, “a band of radical special
interest groups that support high gas prices.” What do you mean by
that?

BOEHNER: Well, if you listen to Barack Obama during the
primaries, you know, he didn’t think $5 gas was all that bad. He just was
upset that it got there so quickly. And what you’ve got, you’ve got a
bunch of radical environmentalists who think that we ought to have higher
gasoline prices so that Americans will drive less and that we will wean
ourselves off oil by putting cars away. That is not what the American
people want. They want a reasonable approach to our energy problems.
And the way to do that is to do all of the above. That is the American
energy plan.

KELLY: Do you think this is what Congress has
such low approval ratings because our viewers are watching this here.
You’ve got the votes you think in both Houses to pass this thing. We’re
in, some would say we’re in an energy crisis, and you cannot even get a bill to
come to a vote on the House floor because, you know, you’re basically getting
the thumb of the nose from the Democrats who control things.

BOEHNER: Yes, we have been through this before. It is

Army Wives (Season 2)

As I watch the season series 2 of Army Wives I notice more and more that the story line is veering off the path of the typical daily life of a true Army Wife, and more into the drama loaded byproduct of Hollywood.

Hollywood's "perception" of what Army Wives are, versus what they truly are...the simplicity of a military wife verses the trumped up version that is now taking hold in the new season has lost my attention.

We have the cute perky Roxie who is newly married into the arena of being a military wife all wrapped up in opening a Bar that was previously blown up by a disheartened GI who found out his wife was having an affair. She still doesn't grasp her husbands HONOR and DUTY or OATH to serve in the MILITARY, nor the anxiousness within him to GET BACK to Iraq and finish his tour of duty with his unit.

We have the Commander's wife, Claudia-Joy, who is still dealing with the loss of her child (same bar explosion) and helping others deal with loss when a soldier is a KIA.

We have the Cancer Patient-Betty, who gave the Bar to perky Roxie--who is obviously going to be cut from the show soon, probably by death...which will lead to some long lost stranger of a relative making the scene into Roxie's life because at this last episode, Roxie's husband made mention that eventually they will PCS, and THEN what is Roxie going to do about the BAR---yea, we all know where this is going...Roxie will probably DX the hubby to keep the bar and find a new love interest in previous mentioned stranger via Betty's death.

Then we have the ever rolling drama of the secret squirrel club of SPEC OPS wife, and here comes the Hollywood drama for what it best at trying to depict. Good lord in heaven. Supposedly there is some theft ring going on with the SPEC OPS guys, a few arrests were made, and the SPEC OPS team are now dual CIA operatives to boot! ta da! Hollyweirdos. This does not happen. Sorry. Your writers were smoking something, and it wasn't cigarettes.

Finally the HOLD OUT for hope. Denise, the Nurse. I was really hoping that the relationship she had with Frank, would be the long standing no holds barred no affairs type, and Denise would be happy re-inventing herself and Frank would be happy to come back to a GREAT wonderful PERFECT special wife with all this new talent! He would champion her and bless her with praise and adore her for learning so much and being so strong!
Ahhhh nope. Frank is a control freak. He doesn't like the motorcycle, he doesn't like her going to Nursing School, he doesn't like her taking care of herself physically to stay beautiful, and he doesn't like her looking into her past and trying things she once liked to do....Frank is an ASS. When Denise tries to see that perhaps spending time with ye' ole young doctor is a bit much--she does pull back though! Got to give her that.

Finally the love birds with a baby on the way. WHEW. Some saving graces. A couple devoted to each other, and kicking butt and taking names. Roland and his wife are AT LEAST a couple to depend on for something solid in this program.

I can say I have honestly lost interest in this season's series, so much that I wait for it to upload online, and then catch it when I am utterly BORED with not a single thing left to do on my plate for the day. Not even play a game online. Or sleep. However, I made a promise to watch it to completion and blog my thoughts, so there you have it. My solid commitment.

Watch something else. This show is 5 thumbs down.

VA RESEARCH THINKS PTSD LEAVES PHYSICAL FOOTPRINTS ON THE BRAIN

First issue within this article, is that the soldier under the microscope, "with" PTSD is being compared to a soldier who has not been diagnosed with PTSD. The soldier under the microscope was not "scanned" PRIOR to combat and being diagnosed with PTSD, so the FLAW in this is that they do not KNOW for CERTAIN if those highlighted area of his brain were already discolored in the pattern they are "SUGGESTING" might be the "signature" pattern of PTSD.

Remember, the researchers WANT to be able to point and click and say PTSD is a DISEASE--and HERE--with this UBER machine that costs MILLIONS and the scanning of every soldier that costs BILLIONS--we can point and shoot the brain and get THIS pattern--and "ta da" PTSD confirmed. PTSD is an direct result of EMOTIONAL TRAUMA, STRESS, and STRAIN produced in an environment unknown to a soldier. IT IS A BY-PRODUCT of WAR, NOT a DISEASE, it is a CONDITION of WAR that causes an EMOTIONAL barrier.

The BRAIN say "HOLY CRAP BATMAN!" and starts to rewire and shut down parts it doesn't want to remember, or locks away some parts and stimuli that it considers hazardous. Sometimes those things leak through--so the brain works overtime to lock them down again and again. This internal struggle is a SURVIVAL instinct, that our bodies have. It takes TIME, and patience and the right "tools" (counseling measures without over medicating) to unlock those Pandora's boxes and safely LEARN HOW to LIVE WITH the memories and images of War. THEY WILL NOT GO AWAY--but they can be dealt with and Incorporated into LIFE. This TAKES TIME and there isn't an INSTANT quick cure or FIX for it.

So...the VA continues to plug along and keep PHARMA at the ready with a PILL to cure the ill's of our heroes. And because they are scientists, neurologists, and the "VA" or others; with the studies and "findings" no matter how SKEWED the reports are---if it sounds and reads scientific, society will defend it! PTSD leaves physical footprints on the brain

Justin Berton, Chronicle Staff Writer

At a recent conference for some of the area's leading neurologists, San Francisco physicist Norbert Schuff captured his colleagues' attention when he presented colorful brain images of U.S. soldiers who had returned from Iraq and Afghanistan and were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The yellow areas, Schuff explained during his presentation at the city's Veterans Affairs Medical Center, showed where the hippocampus, which plays major roles in short-term memory and emotions, had atrophied. The red swatches marked hyper fusion - increased blood flow - in the prefrontal cortex, the region responsible for conflict resolution and decision-making. Compared with a soldier without the affliction, the PTSD brain had lost 5 to 10 percent of its gray matter volume, indicating yet more neuron damage.

Schuff, who was dressed in a Hawaiian shirt just as colorful as the brain images he'd brought, reminded his colleagues that while his findings were preliminary and the trials ongoing, researchers were at least inching closer to finding the biological markers that distinguish a brain affected by PTSD. As the technology of brain imaging improves and the resulting data are refined, doctors believe that one day they will be able to look at a computer screen and see PTSD as clearly as they now see a brain tumor.

"But we're still in the infancy of neuroimaging," Schuff cautioned later in his office. "Do you get PTSD because you have a small hippocampus? Or does a small hippocampus mean you'll develop PTSD? That, we still don't know."

Schuff's research is at the forefront of a bold push by the Department of Defense to address PTSD, the psychological disorder that will haunt an estimated 30 percent of the veterans returning from the current two wars, according to the Pentagon. Forty thousand veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, Pentagon officials say, have already been diagnosed with PTSD, which is defined as an anxiety disorder triggered by exposure to traumatic events; symptoms can include nightmares, flashbacks and panic attacks.

Left untreated, clinicians say, patients with PTSD are more likely to engage in anti-social behaviors such as alcohol and drug abuse. The disorder, neurologists are now learning, can also lead to long-term maladies, such as Alzheimer's and dementia.

Manhattan Project urgency

The quest is to understand how the disorder begins inside the brain. The Defense Department has invested $78 million in San Francisco's Northern California Institute for Research and Education at the VA center in the past four years, making it the largest VA research institute in the country and the only one that specializes in neuroscience. With 200 researchers on staff, and an estimated 40 ongoing studies that rely on 60 to 80 veterans as research participants, the center has the urgency of a Manhattan Project site, this time searching for a way to end a mental health crisis.

The Department of Defense "has such a compelling need for these answers," said Dr. Thomas Neylan, an associate professor of psychiatry at UCSF and director of the post-traumatic stress disorder program at the VA center. "They want to know these answers now, which is the right approach. We want the answers now; people are still going off to the war, coming back, and a lot of them are suffering for a long time."

The search for PTSD biological markers through brain imagining is the primary concern of five research centers in the country, including teams at Harvard and Emory universities. Researchers believe that once the markers are defined, successful treatments can be developed.

Since 1995, magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, has been used to explore the brain through mostly black-and-white images with fuzzy resolution. But in the past few years, advances in computer-imaging technology have enabled neurologists to detect the smallest changes in brain activity.

At the San Francisco VA center, thanks to the installment five years ago of a $4 million MRI machine called the 4T - T stands for Tesla, a unit of magnetic field - Schuff and his colleagues are now able to look into the brain at 1 millimeter resolution, in color and in 3-D. By contrast, Schuff said a 1.5T MRI machine could not register atrophy on PTSD brains. But the 7T MRI machine that was installed at the UCSF Mission Bay campus last year can detect microscopic neuron damage that a 4T is incapable of "seeing."

"With each stronger magnet, we get a finer view of what's going on in the brain," Neylan said.

These advances allow neurologists not only to further understand PTSD, but to study its relationship with brain trauma, one of the leading injuries incurred by soldiers in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
The effects of IEDs

At the VA conference, titled "The Brain at War: Neurocognitive Consequences of Combat," Col. Karl Friedl, director of the U.S. Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, explained why brain injuries have become more prevalent. The main cause: the improvised explosive device, or IED, a homemade device that has become the enemy's signature weapon.

While some well-armored soldiers were able to survive the IED blasts, incurring no outward signs of damage, they later complained of dizziness and "having their bell rung," symptoms consistent with the lesser-known mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

As many as 150,000 troops have been diagnosed with brain injuries, the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force reported last year, but it's unknown how many suffer from mTBI. Mild brain injuries are less often diagnosed because soldiers often believe getting knocked around is part of the job. But over time, with each successive mild brain injury, the effects can become more severe.

The link between mild brain trauma and PTSD is being studied at the VA center in San Francisco by Dr. Gary Abrams, whose preliminary studies show that the overlap between PTSD patients and sufferers of mild brain trauma injury "is tremendous." Abrams has yet to release definitive numbers.

During the next two years, Neylan expects the center will produce a few major findings in terms of possible treatments and advances in neuroimaging. One of the outcomes of the advanced brain imaging could be a prescreen test for soldiers to detect brains already showing PTSD tendencies. Neylan, who specializes in the role sleep plays in a healthy mind, is working on a study of police officers who are resistant to PTSD.

"We're using this opportunity to also see why some people are able to walk away from these situations and live healthy lives," he said, "and why others are not."

Recent attempts to estimate frequency

Iraq and Afghanistan: The number of post-traumatic stress disorder cases is in dispute. The Pentagon estimates 30 percent of veterans from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars will be diagnosed with PTSD. Vietnam War: In 1988, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated the rate of Vietnam vets with PTSD at 14.7 percent. But the 1990 National Vietnam Readjustment Study calculated the rate at 30.9 percent. Both relied mainly on self-reporting. In 2006, a paper in the journal Science added to the debate by estimating the rate at 18.7 percent. World War II: Though there was no official PTSD diagnosis until 1980, after World War II the term "shell shock" was reported by veterans troubled by combat experiences. Researchers such as Dr. Charles Marmar at the San Francisco VA center's Northern California Institute for Research and Education estimate the number of WWII vets with PTSD is consistent with the 1-in-5 figures found in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War. - Justin Berton

Experiments probe further into post-traumatic stress disorder

Four PTSD-related research experiments at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center:

Nasal spray: Scott Panter is developing a battlefield-ready nasal spray for troops who suffer brain trauma. After the trauma occurs, the brain swells, causing tissue damage. Panter's nasal spray, applied within 20 minutes of a trauma, would aim to stop the swelling process. Troops could carry the spray in their packs and self-apply or administer to others.

D-cycloserine: Dr. Charles Marmar is conducting trials on PTSD patients using D-cycloserine. The drug, which was originally used as an antibiotic for tuberculosis, has also proved to help lab animals "unlearn fear responses." Given in small doses 30 minutes before a therapy session, D-cyclo is meant to help PTSD patients open up about their traumatic experiences and become more willing to engage in therapy. The hypothesis is that the group taking D-cyclo will make more and faster progress in therapy.

Blood/gene test: Dr. Lynn Pulliam is trying to establish a blood profile to diagnose PTSD. Using gene array technology, researchers will be able to take an RNA test, much like a DNA test, to determine whether a patient "tests positive" for PTSD.

Sleep experiment: Dr. Thomas Neylan is conducting a study on improving veterans' sleep habits without drugs. Neylan said PTSD patients often feel anxious about sleeping, in part because they anticipate insomnia but also because they worry about nightmares. Subjects are coached to avoid substances that interfere with their sleep. "If we get them to sleep better at night," Neylan said, "they'll have fewer nightmares and feel better during the day."

VA SAYS "NO" TO PRESUMPTIVE ILLNESSES BASED ON EXPOSURE TO SARIN DURING GULF WAR -- Says "there is no basis" to establish presumptive service connections for illnesses discussed in IOM’s 2004 report on Sarin.

Here are the facts about Sarin:

Sarin is a human-made chemical warfare agent classified as a nerve agent. Nerve agents are the most toxic and rapidly acting of the known chemical warfare agents. They are similar to certain kinds of pesticides (insect killers) called organophosphates in terms of how they work and what kind of harmful effects they cause. However, nerve agents are much more potent than organophosphate pesticides.

Sarin originally was developed in 1938 in Germany as a pesticide.

Sarin is a clear, colorless, and tasteless liquid that has no odor in its pure form. However, sarin can evaporate into a vapor (gas) and spread into the environment.

Sarin is also known as GB.

Following release of sarin into the air, people can be exposed through skin contact or eye contact. They can also be exposed by breathing air that contains sarin.
Sarin mixes easily with water, so it could be used to poison water. Following release of sarin into water, people can be exposed by touching or drinking water that contains sarin.
Following contamination of food with sarin, people can be exposed by eating the contaminated food.
A person’s clothing can release sarin for about 30 minutes after it has come in contact with sarin vapor, which can lead to exposure of other people.
Because sarin breaks down slowly in the body, people who are repeatedly exposed to sarin may suffer more harmful health effects.
Because sarin vapor is heavier than air, it will sink to low-lying areas and create a greater exposure hazard there.

The extent of poisoning caused by sarin depends on the amount of sarin to which a person was exposed, how the person was exposed, and the length of time of the exposure.
Symptoms will appear within a few seconds after exposure to the vapor form of sarin and within a few minutes up to 18 hours after exposure to the liquid form.
All the nerve agents cause their toxic effects by preventing the proper operation of the chemical that acts as the body’s “off switch” for glands and muscles. Without an “off switch,” the glands and muscles are constantly being stimulated. They may tire and no longer be able to sustain breathing function.
Sarin is the most volatile of the nerve agents, which means that it can easily and quickly evaporate from a liquid into a vapor and spread into the environment. People can be exposed to the vapor even if they do not come in contact with the liquid form of sarin.

The issue here, is not just limited to SARIN exposure. It is SARIN, depleted uranium, PB Bromide (Pyridostigmine bromide- pills soldiers took daily, and ANTHRAX injections along with exposures to oil field burns, and other exsposures.

When a soldier is exposed to SARIN while taking PB Bromide, consider this:

An acute toxic interaction can occur, in which sublethal doses ofpyridostigmine bromide (PB) and an insect repellentlike (DEET)-or in this case SARIN, when administered, will result in seizures andlethality. It becomes a TOXIC combination. Just those TWO alone. Now combine the rest of the cocktails the soldiers are exposed to, or inoculated with.....starting to see the big picture?

SUMMARY: As required by law, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hereby gives notice that the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, under the authority granted by the Persian Gulf War Veterans Act of 1998, Public Law 105-277, title XVI, 112 Stat. 2681-742 through 2681-749 (codified in part at 38 U.S.C. 1118), has determined that there is no basis to establish a presumption of service connection for any of the diseases, illnesses, or health effects discussed in the August 2004 report of the National Academy of Sciences, titled ``Gulf War and Health: Updated Literature Review of Sarin,’’ based on exposure to sarin during service in the Persian Gulf during the Persian Gulf War.
(Tell this to my son, who was born 9 months after his father returned from that area, an infantry soldier with the 24th Infantry Division, who was exposed to Sarin among other things. My son to this day, can not tolerate being around items cleaned with bleach, any type of insecticide, food additives, and a laundry list of household cleaning chemicals without getting abruptly ill. Once again, we as a Nation will wait 50+ years before we have full-disclosure to what really happened. Meanwhile our soldiers and those affected will certainly pass on, so the VA has "less" to worry about 50+ years from now. Isn't that how it works?)

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

I. Statutory Requirements

The Persian Gulf War Veterans Act of 1998, Public Law 105-277, title XVI, 112 Stat. 2681-742 through 2681-749 (codified in part at 38 U.S.C. 1118), and the Veterans Programs Enhancement Act of 1998, Public Law 105-368, 112 Stat. 3315, directed the Secretary to seek to enter into an agreement with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to review and evaluate the available scientific evidence regarding associations between illnesses and exposure to toxic agents, environmental or wartime hazards, or preventive medicines or vaccines to which service members may have been exposed during service in the Persian Gulf during the Persian Gulf War. Congress directed NAS to identify agents, hazards, [[Page 42412]] medicines, and vaccines to which service members may have been exposed during service in the Persian Gulf during the Persian Gulf War.

Congress mandated that NAS determine, to the extent possible: (1) Whether there is a statistical association between exposure to the agent, hazard, medicine, or vaccine and the illness, taking into account the strength of the scientific evidence and the appropriateness of the scientific methodology used to detect the association; (2) the increased risk of illness among individuals exposed to the agent, hazard, medicine, or vaccine; and (3) whether a plausible biological mechanism or other evidence of a causal relationship exists between exposure to the agent, hazard, medicine, or vaccine, and the illness.

Section 1602 of Public Law 105-277 provides that whenever the Secretary determines, based on sound medical and scientific evidence, that a positive association (i.e., the credible evidence for the association is equal to or outweighs the credible evidence against the association) exists between exposure of humans or animals to a biological, chemical, or other toxic agent, environmental or wartime hazard, or preventive medicine or vaccine known or presumed to be associated with service in the Southwest Asia theater of operations during the Persian Gulf War and the occurrence of a diagnosed or undiagnosed illness in humans or animals, the Secretary will publish regulations establishing presumptive service connection for that illness. If the Secretary determines that a presumption of service connection is not warranted, he is to publish a notice of that determination, including an explanation of the scientific basis for that determination. The Secretary’s determination must be based on consideration of the NAS reports and all other sound medical and scientific information and analysis available to the Secretary.

Although Public Law 105-277 does not define ``credible evidence,’’ it does instruct the Secretary to ``take into consideration whether the results (of any study) are statistically significant, are capable or replication, and withstand peer review.’’ Simply comparing the number of studies that report a significantly increased relative risk to the number of studies that report a relative risk that is not significantly increased is not a valid method for determining whether the weight of evidence overall supports a finding that there is or is not a positive association between exposure to an agent, hazard, or medicine or vaccine and the subsequent development of the particular illness. Because of differences in statistical significance, confidence levels, control for confounding factors, and other pertinent characteristics, some studies are clearly more credible than others, and the Secretary has given the more credible studies more weight in evaluating the overall weight of the evidence concerning specific illnesses.

II. NAS Reports on Sarin

NAS issued its initial report titled, Gulf War and Health, Volume 1: Depleted Uranium, Sarin, Pyridostigmine Bromide, Vaccines, on January 1, 2000. In that report, NAS limited its analysis to the health effects of depleted uranium, the chemical warfare agent sarin, vaccinations against botulism toxin and anthrax, and pyridostigmine bromide, which was used in the Gulf War as a pretreatment for possible exposure to nerve agents. On July 6, 2001, VA published a notice in the Federal Register announcing the Secretary’s determination that the available evidence did not warrant a presumption of service connection for any disease discussed in that report, including sarin. See 66 FR 35702.

NAS issued a supplemental report, titled ``Gulf War and Health: Updated Literature Review on Sarin’’ in August 2004. In that report, the Committee focused on the health effects associated with exposure to sarin and related compounds, including relevant epidemiologic studies. This Notice addresses the August 2004 Update on sarin.

III. The Committee’s Review

In the August 2004 Update on sarin, the Committee reviewed the peer-reviewed literature published since its earlier 2000 report on health effects associated with exposure to sarin and related compounds. These included both animal and human studies. In reviewing published studies, the Committee based its determinations on the strength of the evidence of associations between compound exposure and human health effects as reported in those studies. The Committee also considered other relevant issues, including exposure to multiple chemicals and genetic susceptibilities.

The literature search on sarin and cyclosarin located about 250 articles published after the 2000 report. The Committee relied only on published peer-reviewed articles for their review, although each article was carefully reviewed for its relevance and quality. The Committee relied primarily upon epidemiological studies that involved humans. Animal studies had a lesser role in its assessment of the potential relationship between sarin exposure and health effects, and were used, as in previous NAS studies, primarily for making assessments of biological plausibility in support of epidemiological findings.

The Committee reviewed 19 epidemiological studies of sarin health effects published since its original 2000 report. These included three studies on non-Gulf War veterans, four studies of Gulf War veterans potentially exposed at Khamisiyah, six population-based studies of U.S. and U.K. Gulf War veterans using self-reported exposures, and six studies of specific military units of Gulf War veterans also using self-reported exposures. They also looked again at all of the studies used in the 2000 report. The non-Gulf War veteran studies reviewed in both the 2004 update and the earlier 2000 report were based on U.S. military volunteers who had been exposed several decades ago to non- lethal doses of sarin and other chemical warfare agents; on industrial workers with documented acute exposure to sarin; and on victims of the sarin terrorist attacks in Matsumoto City in 1994 and Tokyo in 1995. The Committee pointed out that a major limitation of virtually all human studies is a lack of good exposure information.

The Committee report pointed to the uncertainties surrounding the Department of Defense (DoD) sarin exposure assessment for Khamisiyah, and how those uncertainties limit the ability of studies that rely upon that modeling data to provide strong evidence for the presence or the absence of any association between sarin exposure and health outcomes. They stated, ``none of the studies using exposure information showed persistent neurological effects in Khamisiyah-exposed troops compared to non-Khamisiyah exposed troops. Because of the uncertainty in the exposure assessment models those studies do not provide strong evidence for or against the presence of neurologic effects.’’ Therefore, the studies based upon the DoD Khamisiyah modeling had little impact on the Committee’s findings.

The Committee also reported on new published data regarding experimental animals that were designed to mimic the potential exposures in the Gulf War. These data had precipitated the interest in an updated study of sarin health effects. The Committee reported that the data were an important step in ``determining whether a biologically plausible mechanism could underlie any long-term effects of low exposure to chemical verge agents, but more work [[Page 42413]] needs to be conducted to elucidate potential mechanisms and clarify how the cellular effects are related to any clinical effects that might be seen.’’

The Committee reported that, in the absence of carefully designed human studies expressly of sarin’s or cyclosarin’s long-term health effects at doses that do not produce acute signs and symptoms, the Committee concludes that the data remain inadequate or insufficient to determine whether persistent long-term effects are associated with low- level sarin exposure.

At a briefing to VA in August 2004, when questioned about whether NAS emphasis on human studies might overlook health concerns revealed only in laboratory animal studies, the head of the Committee stated that the Committee did thoroughly review available animal studies and taken together, they failed to show consistent biological effects that could be plausibly tied to potential clinical effects in humans. He added that future animal studies might change that result.

IV. The Committee’s Conclusions

In its report, the Committee weighed the strengths and limitations of all the epidemiological evidence reviewed for the August 2004 Update and in Gulf War and Health Volume 1, and reached its conclusions by interpreting the new evidence in the context of the entire body of literature. The Committee classified the evidence of an association between exposure to sarin and cyclosarin and a specific health outcome with reference to five categories: sufficient evidence of a causal relationship, sufficient evidence of an association, limited/suggestive evidence of an association, inadequate/insufficient evidence of an association, and limited/suggestive evidence of no association.

Sufficient Evidence of a Causal Relationship: This category means the evidence is sufficient to conclude that there is a causal association between exposure to a specific agent and a specific health outcome in humans. The evidence is supported by experimental data and fulfills the guidelines for sufficient evidence of an association. The evidence must be biologically plausible and satisfy several of the guidelines used to assess causality, such as: strength of association, dose-response relationship, consistency of association, and a temporal relationship.

The Committee found there is sufficient evidence of a causal relationship between acute high-dose exposure to sarin and acute cholinergic syndrome that is evident seconds to hours subsequent to sarin exposure and resolves in days to months. The Committee noted that acute cholinergic syndrome has been recognized for decades, and that the syndrome, as well as cholinergic signs and symptoms, is evident seconds to hours after exposure and usually resolves in days to months.

Sufficient Evidence of an Association: This category means the evidence is sufficient to conclude that there is a positive association. That is, a consistent positive association has been observed between exposure to a specific agent and a specific health outcome in human studies in which chance and bias, including confounding, could be ruled out with reasonable confidence. For example, several high-quality studies report consistent positive associations, and the studies are sufficiently free of bias, including adequate control for confounding.

The Committee made no conclusions in this category.

Limited/Suggestive Evidence of an Association: This category means the evidence is suggestive of an association between exposure to a specific agent and a specific health outcome, but the body of evidence is limited by the inability to rule out chance and bias, including confounding, with confidence. For example, at least one high-quality study reports a positive association that is sufficiently free of bias, including adequate control for confounding. Other corroborating studies provide support for the association, but they are not sufficiently free of bias, including confounding. Alternatively, several studies of lower quality show consistent positive associations, and the results are probably not due to bias, including confounding.

The Committee found there is limited/suggestive evidence of an association between exposure to sarin at doses sufficient to cause acute cholinergic signs and symptoms and a variety of subsequent long- term neurological effects. The Committee noted that many health effects are reported in the literature to persist after such high-dose sarin exposure: fatigue, headache, visual disturbances (asthenopia, blurred vision, and narrowing of the visual field), asthenia, shoulder stiffness, and symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. The Committee further stated that such sarin exposure has also been followed by abnormal test results, of unknown clinical significance, on the digit symbol test of psychomotor performance, EEG records of sleep, event- related potential, visual evoked potential, and computerized posturography.

The Committee based its conclusion on the persistent effects seen in retrospective studies of three exposed populations in which acute cholinergic signs and symptoms were documented as acute effects of exposure. However, the Committee explained that while a review of the literature published since the Committee’s initial report confirmed the effects seen in those populations, the data, taken together, were not adequate to increase confidence in the evidence to that of sufficient evidence of an association.

Inadequate/Insufficient Evidence: This category means the evidence is of insufficient quantity, quality, or consistency to permit a conclusion regarding the existence of an association between exposure to a specific agent and a specific health outcome in humans.

The Committee found there is inadequate/insufficient evidence to determine whether an association does or does not exist between exposure to sarin at low doses insufficient to cause acute cholinergic signs and symptoms and subsequent long-term adverse neurological health effects. In the absence of carefully designed human studies expressly of sarin or cyclosarin’s long-term health effects at doses that do not produce acute signs and symptoms, the Committee concluded that the data remain inadequate or insufficient to determine whether such long-term effects are associated with low-level sarin exposure.

The Committee also found there is inadequate/insufficient evidence to determine whether an association does or does not exist between exposure to sarin and subsequent long-term cardiovascular effects. Studies of persistent cardiovascular effects after sarin exposure have been inconsistent. Therefore, the Committee concluded that the data are inadequate or insufficient to determine whether an association exists.

Limited/Suggestive Evidence of No Association: This category means the evidence is consistent in not showing a positive association between exposure to a specific agent and a specific health outcome after exposure of any magnitude. A conclusion of no association is inevitably limited to the conditions, magnitudes of exposure, and length of observation in the available studies. The possibility of a very small increase in risk after exposure studied cannot be excluded.

The Committee made no conclusions in this category. [[Page 42414]]

V. Response to the NAS Report

After careful review of the findings of the August 2004 NAS report, the Secretary has determined that the conclusions contained in the report do not provide adequate basis to support a presumption of service connection for any health condition resulting from sarin exposure. Specifically, the Secretary has determined that the 2004 NAS Committee conclusions concerning both acute high-dose exposure to sarin and low-level exposure to sarin are consistent with the findings in the 2000 NAS report, and therefore do not warrant any change in current VA policy.

Following the 2000 NAS report, VA determined that a presumption based on acute high-dose exposure was not warranted for a number of reasons. First, VA and Department of Defense have determined, with a high degree of confidence, that no service members were exposed to levels of sarin sufficient to induce acute cholinergic syndrome. Further, if such exposures had occurred, the symptoms would have been present within seconds to hours following exposure and would be compensable by VA on a direct service-connection basis. Additionally, any long-term neurological effects would be compensable under VA presumptions for undiagnosed illness. See 38 CFR 3.317. Finally, because it is very unlikely that a presumption would benefit anyone, such a presumption would likely be confusing and have a negative impact on the claims adjudication process.

Nothing in the 2004 NAS report changes the bases for VA’s prior determination. The 2004 report notes that current available information is ``consistent with the absence of reports of acute cholinergic symptoms by medical personnel or veterans’’ and that the level of exposure experienced by service members during the Gulf War ``would have been insufficient to produce the cholinergic syndrome.’’

Similarly, the Secretary has determined that the conclusions contained in the 2004 NAS report regarding long-term health effects from exposure to low levels of sarin are essentially identical and lend further support to the conclusions contained in the 2000 report. Based upon the findings contained in the 2000 NAS report, the Secretary determined that there was not an adequate basis to support establishing a presumption of service connection for any health problem resulting from sarin exposure. NAS’s findings in the 2004 Update provide further support for existing VA policy on these issues.

In conclusion, the Secretary has determined that the findings in the 2004 NAS report did not provide any new basis to establish a presumption of service connection for any diseases, illnesses, or health effects resulting from exposure to sarin during service in the Persian Gulf during the Persian Gulf War. Therefore, the Secretary has determined that there is no scientific basis to revise earlier policy determinations published in the Federal Register at 66 FR 35702 on July 6, 2001, on health effects from exposure to sarin based upon the NAS’s 2000 Report.
